"Words With Friends"
WTF?!

It's like a knock-off of Scrabble. First time playing. One of the earliest "words" my friend placed was "AI" (artificial intelligence), so I learned that the game is pretty lenient on what counts as a word. I started experimenting and all of these count:

"AH"
"BIZ" (Business)
"LUV" (Love)
"TAT"
"DOCS" (Documents)
"ANON" (Anonymous)
"TA"
"HO"
"NAW"
"ER" (Emergency Room)
"YA" (Yes, Yeah)
"SI" (Spanish)
"AI" (Artificial Intelligence)

I've deliberately handicapped myself to see if my friend notices. I'm trying to use the shortest possible words and I'm not using the "Shuffle" option.

Here's an opportunity to lay a letter Q (worth 10 points) on a DL tile and get 21 points for laying a single tile. If "AI" (artificial intelligence) works, "IQ" (intelligence quotient) should also work.

?!?!?

Hmm. Maybe I can go for "EQ" (equalizer) and get the same number of points?

Nope!

What the -?

How is "QI" a word? Does it mean something like "Quality Inspection?" IQ and EQ don't work, but "QI" works?

Only 11 points too.

QI is a word in the Scrabble dictionary. "The vital force that in Chinese thought is inherent in all things."

I bet if you looked all those up in the Scrabble dictionary, you'd find them too. It's amazing what counts as a word... In the version of Scrabble on my phone, zaire and texas are allowed, but other locations are not. Turns out that they both have alternate meanings outside of the proper noun form. Would never have known if the computer hadn't played them on me. That's how I found out about all the small words that can get rid of the high scoring letters; xi, qi, za, jo. Useful stuff if you get stuck with one of those in the closing turns.

in scrabble, i love to pull out the spelling of the pronunciation of a letter - this is especially useful at the very end of the game where few tiles are available.

el for the letter L

OK, so I guess most of those are just extremely unusual words (around here).

Most people use "IQ" as a word and they don't even know what it stands for...yet that doesn't count.

Yeah texas is a word, so is minnesota and dakota, on top of their formal meanings we white Americans gave them.

How is it that I am your twin brother and yet I knew what Qi meant and you didn't?

It's an alternate spelling for chi.

What annoys me is a random "You lost!" message when the game didn't even end and I was whipping the shit out of someone.

Disregarding those illegitimate losses, I'm undefeated.

AND alternate pronunciation. I specifically knew the spelling, definition, and pronunciation of both "Qi" and "Chi," but my brother is on the phone insisting that I did not. The asshole.
