DEC, LAE, DED, PL, BI, PD, UM, UIM, PIP, CL, GL, BI, BOP, D&B

and those are just the ones i remember in a few seconds

i work in insurance and don't recognize a single one of those

I had coworkers who made deliberate attempts to go a whole week without acronyms anywhere...emails, conversations, meetings. They didnt make it to lunch. Too unwieldy.

I'm working on a project, that due to politics had it's name changed multiple times and finally end up with a 4 letter acronym with no vowels and everyone hates it because it can't be pronounced. Maybe some of our British friends like @pmv or @WelshBloke can confirm this, but I think pronouncing acronyms like standalone words is an American English thing.

Acronyms are way too efficient to stop using. One you learn an acronym, your brain processes it just like a standalone words, so you can shrink a lot of text or siding into a much smaller package. The real issue is people not defining them and assuming everyone knows them.
