Wow! you'll be close. (I live about 30 miles from Kiryat Gat)
Since I live in Israel right now, you can ask anything, I guess.
There is a LOT to see around here. While we're basically a technologically-modern country, Israel is a bucket full of different cultures from all over the world.
I suppose I can take you on a tour to see interesting things.
BTW...our food always tastes better.
Be'er Sheva?
Shwarma + Amba = heaven
North of KG, actually. a small kibbutz no one knows about.
I don't like Amba, but my little brothers can't live without it.
Maybe one day I'll understand
EDIT: I suppose I should answer the original questions:
No one will really care you're not jewish. If anything...you'll just attract more girls as an American.
Cost of living is a mixed bag - if you're single and Intel pays what it pays it'll be quite cheap.
for a decent used car $4K is the minimum to get something that will not break down every week if you don't know about the cars here.
Forget about performance - the most popular cars have 1.3-2L engines.
The weather is always hot, nearly always humid - nothing special.
Best option would be to find a kibbutz (tiny town) with houses to rent. Why live in a city? Israel is so small you're always close to everything anyway.
