Verrrrry Interesting. This was a long day. Up at 6:00am for an 8:00 am stage call. Had 8 seperate services to wire and two sets of spares for the various needs. There were 2: 400 amp, 3 phase mains services required for basic lights and sound. There was a 200 amp three phase for the video and projectors. THEN we added another video truck service in case the Generator that was feeding the trailer doing the taping and editing for the Broadcast, failed, we would have a redundant supply at hand.
Needed a seperate 100 amp single phase 120 drop for the photo studio that they set up in the warehouse space of the Bi-Lo center. That was the smallest cable I dealt with all day and it was
We connected a ground for that generator truck to the Arena's water pipes that cool the air chillers with 4/0 power cable and connected it all with CAM-Lock type connectors. Heck, most every thing was wired with 4/0 cable at the ties in where I was involved.. Actually there were 5:4/0 cables Bundled together for most of these service feeds.
They also fed a 400 amp , 3 phase 120 BACK from the Genny in case one of the house supplied services failed. Did I mention the Generator truck had dual 4k Caterpiller powered Gennies on a flat bed Peterbuilt chassis? and had fuel tanks the size of a small mini sub?
Found 3 bad 200 amp 3 phase main breakers at the center, Notified the Operations director as we were going out. Glad I'm not the one who pays for those.
Quite the spectacle, fer sure. Was eating lunch and I look over and I'm eating lunch with Eddie Guererro. I said "Hello",he says "Hey"...nods and sipped his soup.... you know, eating lunch.....
Other wrestlers were coming into the catering hall there, no big deal,
more to come tomorrow, no :camera:'s,check it on TV.

I was just looking for Eddie Guerrero's "Latino Heat" Tabasco shirt at the WWE online store, and they don't have it! At least, it's not under his name. That sucks... That shirt rocks.

Wrestling is at the Bi-Lo Center? I didn't even hear about it, but I've been busy at work. If you need any concert hoists, let me know! I sell them

Hey Alien, are you living in Greenville, or just up here for that job?

I'm about 5 minutes away from you right now.

EDIT: I see you're from Anderson.

Well the divas were damn hot, let me say that.
Here I'll prove I was there.... Thursday night, you'll see Suzuki's wife get in a cat fight with another (don't know her name) they'll end up pulling their clothes almost off and that'll end up in a tag team match with Rob VamDam and Ray Mysterio going against Suzuki and some other guy.
I can't take pics, cause I'm at work and they don't allow that sort.
I won't be able to take pics of Motley Crue, either.

Wrasslin Divas are "mmmmmmmm goood".

I wanted to get one of those, but didn't have time to make it to the merch counter.

so do the cables get pulled out and thrown away after every event? why the constant rewiring, can't they just run a few hundred amps to every room? are the generators the primary power source? why don't they use the grid? how much current can you run through a water pipe before it starts heating up? is there a formula for it? how do you move all that 4/0 cable around?

No this is temprary power that comes from the various Main Breaker boxes in the Center, to the distribution panels that each show carries with them. These cable feeder runs are typically carted in large cases which will contain 100 or 200 feet or more.
Most Rock shows will ask for connections of one or two of those services I decribed in the OP. These guys asked for NINE seperate services and we had 11 set up.
Think of it as being asked to do 2.5 times as much work one day, than the "normal" requirements.
Five 4/0 cables bundled together weigh about 20 lbs per foot, and we have to load and unload at least 100 feet and often more like 200 feet per run.

Using the water pipe as a GROUND is allowed as it most often is a metal pipe that extend for many feet underground, in direct contact with the soil. This allows a Very LOw Impeadance connection to ground, allowing current to flow to it, rather than through your body, in the event of a fault.
Since no current flows, unless there is a fault, there is no heating action to occur.
The Generators were used for the TV Production trailer so as to provide 100 % isolated power from the building, plus they had a rendundant Generator running and a THIRD Service standing by from the building in case Murphy had brought some cousins.

The TV trucks want their own power to get away from the lighting circuits.
The lighting dimmers are noisey.

I usually ask for the lights to go on the genny.......
And put the truck on shore power

Three phase cam lock is fun
(Bring good gloves)
