Working at Google seemed like a dream job. The reality has been a tedious, pointless nightmare.

To be frank, I think dude should be lucky he even had a Job. Probably paid well and had awesome benefits seen as how it was Google. I mean, compare that mundane shitty life to that of one in Venezuela right now that struggles to find a plate of food.

Yeah, it sucks, but if you don't like it apply for something else before quitting FFS.

Few paragraphs in - and the first thing is obivous... this is written by someone who works in HR Recruiting. What the fuck did you expect with that amazing prosperous job title? Unicorn farts and cotton candy machines at work? Looks like yet another worthless millenial that comes to the workforce full of wishful spirits and happy dreams, all for them to realize that reality isn't amazing.

He said it himself: "At first, I drank the Kool-Aid. Who doesn’t like being told they’re important?"

There - that right there was your first problem.
1) You're not important. You're never important. Unless you are a major shareholder, a partner, or an executive management - you're not important and you mean nothing. You can be replaced tomorrow.
2) With how much controls and regulations we have, very few if any jobs are "fun". Especially for anything within 5-10 years of just getting out of college.

Just another millennial who thinks they are special and things they need to tell the world about how unfairly they have been treated. Just F'ing quit and move on to your next job. You don't have to try and be the next internet sensation. Shut up, move on and we all will be happier.

Reminds me of that bag of rice chick who was eating well and buying expensive booze.

I don't get it. What cool and innovative HR recruiting did they think was going to happen? You are a recruiter at a tech company with zero tech knowledge, it was never going to be that interesting. On your best day you were a mild speed bump on the way to a job on your worst you wasted people's time. I wouldn't worry about references this "expose" isn't going to show up on google's radar.

The dumb fuck thought he was going to take the people he was recruiting out to sports events and buy them $200 steak dinners to try and get them.

They use paywall.

I could still read it. Developer Tools --> Sources ---> Index ---> line #750

Just another one of us who's expectations have not been met by reality. Nothing more and nothing less.

Didn't read the article as that website is, for a lack of a better word, useless. Not sure what it's about but reading the title I would like to say that if you work of a big company, any big company, you can do one 2 things. 1 - maintain a low profile, forget about big n quick raise and promotions, go with the flow, keep your head down and enjoy a cool, well paying 8 - 5 job. 2 - Do something with you life, build a career. If you go with the 2nd option the ONLY thing you need to be very good at, only thing that matters is networking and politics. You ideas and talent and useless without networking and politics

Yep. All I had to see was 'human resources' and I stopped. I mean, I'd like to talk directly to this guy. You got a useless degree, are working in a soul sucking position that is usually populated by worthless asshats, and you're surprised that you aren't having a fullfilling career? I have YET to meet an HR person that has any true problem solving skills. By and large they are back stabbing, 'company' people who will screw over every person working for the company given the chance.

When you question the ones where I work about disciplinary measures that you need to hand out to people, they refuse to give you an answer and want to come speak with their 'boss'. Because they won't take any responsibility. Fucking worthless. Fire them all.

This is terrifyingly true. Be good at twisting the truth, kissing ass, playing politics, and sidling up to management. That's it.

Exactly, he thought he was someone important in the world. He's just one of the many with a basic job.

Just another millennials' world view imploding.

If you could read their social media history and see "I work for google now haha, suckers my life is going to be great!!!" Before they even work their first day at the job you'd have alot easier time not caring what such an obvious waste of breath twat thinks.

I wouldn't call all of HR useless. I knew one chick in HR that was pretty good at blow jobs. LOL!

And there is their. There!

I'd think in general working for a big company like Google, Microsoft etc is probably not all that. You're just a number, and if you screw up even once, there are thousands of people lined up for your job so they won't hesitate to fire you. A lot of big companies like that also tend to have pretty heafty non compete and conflict of interest agreements, they basically own your soul forever even if you stop working there.

As prestigious as it might seem to work for such a company I'd rather work for a small startup where I actually mean something and can be involved in growing the company, given the choice between the two.

On the other hand, if you're working on any big name products that are used by millions of people, there would be a coolness factor to be able to tell your friends "I coded that part".

In my employer I am just a number and people with +15 years can be shown the door for nothing they did wrong. And yet a lot of you bastards still do business with them.

I like stories like this, specifically just stories about people not drinking the Google-aid. There are kids over the last few years that have grown up hearing about companies like Google, and they believe that anything less than safe spaces and nap pods is a slight against their very being. Every time somebody reveals that Google isn't perfect, and has issues just like any other large company, it makes me hopeful that maybe the new grads will start to come back to reality about their first corporate gig.

Google is so sought after they can hire the very best for each position. I imagine that most who get in have a little smugness about them because they beat the odds and supposedly landed the "dream job". But that means you have a shitload of menial jobs (like this one) that will be filled by cherry picked people that think they should be movers and shakers. What results is hiring personalities that don't fit into those menial positions, like we see here. I have no idea if this person is actually qualified for anything more than what they were doing, but they certainly think they are.

My old tech lead left here in MD for a job out in Mountain View as a tech lead for Google a few years ago and he loves it. The best perk that he's told me about is he takes a shuttle to/from work that is about 45 minutes each way, but it has wifi and he can work while he's commuting. So he only has to actually be "at work" for 6.5 hours.
