I work third shift at a large company's data center. I volunteered to work Christmas because A) it would have been a regular work day for me on my schedule if not a holiday, B) I am young and don't have kids or a family, and C) the extra pay is super nice.

I'm off in about 60 mins.

Edit: I actually had a decent amount of work to do tonight. Servers never sleep!

Try to remember the folks on duty, and deployed, this Christmas season, and say a prayer of thanks for them, as they watch over us and keep us safe. :thumbsup:

I worked Christmas Eve, Christmas, and every other day this week. My Muslim and Jewish clients ask for those days because to them it's just another day.

You would think so, but ours get lots of friendly human intervention so that fixes taht issue. Working till 2pm here. should be till 4 but they let me leave 2 hours early since there is a 2 hour overlap in the 2 shifts. I also worked yestarday and I work tomorrow.

On the plus side there is nobody here so it's not terribly stressful, the support desk hasn't even bothered me in 2 days

Used to. No seniority, and the previous contract the "10 hours between shifts" rule was removed. So I worked 3rd shift Christmas Eve and 1st shift Christmas Day. Good money, but I was a zombie.

this is the first Christmas in about 5 years that I'm not working (not counting having the holiday fall on my normally scheduled days off).

I've worked so much OT in the past 4 weeks with half my department being on vacation and one guy's dad dying that I said fuck it, I'm taking the day off. but I worked yesterday and I'll be back to work tomorrow.

My job (NOC) is a 24/7 operation so I could end up working it, but so far I've been lucky. I work new years eve/day this year though but I volunteered for that, figuring it would reduce my chance of working Christmas too. We don't really do much for new year's anyway. Nice money. Christmas is very nice money too though, because there's boxing day too. So it's 2 shifts that are double time and a half (or w/e stat holidays are).
