Working out at home is NOT working out. I need a gym... but which one?

I really need to use a gym that is NOT at home. the treadmill is fine for warmups, but seriously i feel fat.. and i need some hardcore equipment so i can lose it fast and plus i wont be affected by my mom's cooking which is a pain cause indian spices and working out dont go together..

Needless to say I need a gym.

I was thinking 24hr fitness, but they dont have too many in my area. I am not sure of whats what either. The other option is Bally's, Golds Gym, LA Fitness.

My zipcode is 91335.

My goal - 25lbs by end of summer.

Most corporate gyms are very similar. You should make your decision based on price, hours of operation, and distance.

There is a bally's nearby and so is a 24. I dont have a list of deals with bally's right now, but I do have it with 24.

The one year prepaid for 24hr fitness all club sport is 249.. not too bad. But the place is on the other side of home .. so i got to go past home to get to the gym.
I'll check bally's at lunch. its on the way home.. so it might work out better for me.

whatever you do DO NOT SIGN A LONG TERM CONTRACT WITH BALLYS!

just take my advice on that. i have been going to bally's but I'm not on any long term monthly contract. i pay for a year all at once, and when its about to be up i pay again. i know 3-4 people who have been screwed in long term contracts with them.

Just an FYI, working out anywhere is what you make of it. That said, it's easier to join a gym than to buy all the equipment you may need/want. However I played racquetball instead of lifting, so today I played 1 set of tennis than ran through a dumbell complex at home which absolutely kicked my azz.

It is possible to get a good workout in at home. I do circuit training using body weight and dumbbells and I am in great shape. Plus, I run in my neighborhood and bike on my stationary bike. I've saved TONS of money and time by doing my training at home. Like zebano said, it's what you make of it that counts.

i highly enjoy going to the local YMCA, which is next door to our community college.

I've noticed all of the 18yo freshman girls seem to like going their too.

At this place, for like every male, their is 3 college freshman females. Not to mention all other females their.

=)

I do prefer many workouts at the gym (eye candy), but certainly some free weights will get you every bit as good at workout at home. I have worked out for long periods with just my big collection of dumbells, incline bench, and cage, and hit my max bench press for one rep while working out only at home (was 270 when I weighed a bit under 180). Plenty of people are very successful at home and can get very large/strong/fit.

I like hte Gold's I work out at (got a great deal since it was just opening).

Downside is there is very very little eye candy. Or at least little candy that isn't rotten.

So I drove by to check out where the 24hr fitnesses are near by and also to check out the crowd. Seems much more attractive than Ballys. I swung by ballys, it was horrid. Perhaps the one i went to was a smaller one and not a mainstream one but frankly it was horrid and the sales pitch.. if the 18 yr old attractive brunette might have shown some favors perhaps she might have gotten something out of it..

I think 24hr fitness would be better since its cheaper.. ballys was offering a super specail deal of 75 for startup initiatation (150 normal) and 39 /mo (49 / mo normally) and then later he was like i can give you 3 years prepaid at 19/mo.

At that point i was disgusted with them.. horrible company.. Baiting people to sign up. Where is the honesty in the business.

I have to check if 24hr fitness has a initattion fee.

remember, it's not the gym, but your commitment that makes your workouts worthwhile.

Joining the gym is a lot of going to the car dealership. They're going to try to pull a fast one on your with XX dollars fees and finance charges if you sign a long term contract at XX dollars. Just go in there knowing what's a monthly amount that you're willing to pay. It's always better to pay it all up front rather than month by month. I also think they do credit checks with the long term contract.
