So, as i promised i will start my little worklog.
I need a new server to replace my current dually.
Lind will replace my Sammy, which is my current dual sossoman system that has served me well in the past.

Sammy:

I just need something more powerful and a lot faster.

All my parts have not arrived yet, so i cant show you a total part picture yet.

Ahh dual processor systems are so purty...
I think im getting old. Enterprise hardware is looking more pleasing to the eye then consumer overclocking hardware.

Parts:
Case: CM Stacker T01
Motherboard: Intel 5520SC Workstation Board.
Ram: 6x 1GB Kingston DDR3-1333 ECC Registered.
CPU: Intel X5570 Gainestown x 2
PSU: PCnC 1KW-SR
Hard Drive Cage: IceyDok 5 drive SATA backplate
SAS Controller: Supermicro IOP348. 8 port.
VideoCard: Paliat 9600GT
Cooling: (Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme /w Scythe Gentle Typhoons Fans) x 2
Hard Drives: 1x 74gb raptor (OS), 2 x 2TB, 4 x 1TB, 2 x 750GB drives. Total of 9. (yes its a mean NAS)

I am currently waiting for the TRUE's which will arrive tomorrow.
I am also waiting for my ECC Reg. ram.

Here is the Core:

That is all i have right now that i can show.
I'll take a picture of the rest as it arrives.

I'll also include sneak peaks of Nadeshiko (Gulftown) after ive almost finished Lind, so follow up.

More to come...

Case:

PSU and Video Card:

Post numbers not teasers.

You mean like whose faster? Nadeshiko or Lind?

Well, we'll find out who my queen is after Lind is built.

You're never too old to think that Enterprise hardware looks more pleasing to the eye than consumer grade hardware. Workstation and Server grade stuff will always be more pimp.

Overkill much for a NAS? I mean, what are you planning on having it do while it just serves data? Fold?

As for the HDs, I think you need more hotswap bays.

Sorry to derail. I have almost that exact same Stacker. What is the brand name + model number of that hot swap bay?

its alright.

http://www.provantage.com/icy-dock-m...b~7ICYD00E.htm

Icy Dock
MB455SPF-B Internal Multi-Bay Drive Rack for 3.5" SATA I/II Hard Disk Drive
Manufacturer Part# MB455SPF-B

I heard a lot of people say it makes a rattling noise, i havent had time to confirm it yet, i will probably this weekend.

I needed 5 of my drives to be hot swapable. The other 4 is going inside the CM Stacker HD rack.

Oh and that a Matrix Orbital you guys see down there.
Im probably gonna use it as a fan controller / diag screen.

Its gonna do a lot.
Probably Crunch, FTP, and DNS services.
Its the Unrar times that really got to me.

When you got a file thats been rar packed into 100 files and is about 10gigs big, sammy doesnt cut it anymore, and takes too long.

I don't get this. I thought it was a worklog thread, not a brag thread.

LOL its coming zap..

Waiting for the TRUE's... they should arrive today.

I have no idea when the ram is coming. I might use regular DDR3 until the ECC REG ram arrive, since that board can take both.

Then i'll start doing some install with cable management today.

Aircooling, Aigo? What is this? Sure, it's a NAS, but it's going to crunch too.

I'm building a new NAS/server too. Dual E5520s, SuperMicro X8DTH-6F, 24GB DDR3 ECC, etc.
But I'm watercooling it for crunching F@H...

This is a slow build log for you, Aigo... stop waiting and build with what you have!

i was gonna water it, however my friend has already told me what the chips will do under a TRUE.

So i figured, water at best would only give me 5-7C benefit, but i would need a whole lot of other stuff in it.

In short, the long run, its not worth it on an enterprise machine.

And yes i do appologize for the delay... my TRUE's were suposed to arrive on friday, but due to veterans day and UPS fail, they are arriving today.

I cant really build without the sinks, because i need to mount the sinks b4 i mount the board.

Good luck getting 2 trues inside when the board is already mounted.

So yay my TRUE's have arrived.

Id like to thank Gary at sidewinders personally for making this order easy.
He had to correct my order and i wish to thank him properly for it.

So here is my TRUE's with GT's

Finally finished modding my SAS controller to a better sink:

More to come as i actually start building....

He may never finish a build. We all get Aigo'd. But it's been 2 days and barely pictures of anything.

no no no i will finish it..

LOL... need to wait for the weekend for time to free up tho.

I have collected all the needed parts minus the ram.

Provantage has just let me know, that it wont ship out until the 27th.

But i will use normal DDR3... :\

Just week days and work is a PITA.

Update:
Added the TRUE's

Then i need to mount, then cable management.
I am gonna take the cable management slowly, so i can also replace tactites cable management thread to a more VB friendly version.

Wont have time to do this til this weekend, so have some patience please.

I'm new here, so I don't know Aigo from Adam, but do you mean that literally, as in Aigo has never finished a build ever?

Aigo, what's the fastest machine you've built? And have you built any quad sockets?

Also, why do you prefer the TRUE's? Are no other coolers more effective? (Am I correct in understanding that the TRUE's you keep referring to are those towering heatsinks?)

Thanks.

He never stops changing parts, so the build never gets "finished".

Thanks.

I got them for 20 dollars cheaper then meglahems. And at that price vs performance, with a GT i think i got even.
Also i like the TRUE. I had around 5 of them, on builds i dont do water with.

Once lapped and prep'd, there awesome sinks.

Is the change in avatar a sign that Lind is on hiatus?

No i am gonna finish her this weekend.
I build in this order.

1. Sinks.
2. Install board
3. Install all the other stuff
4. PSU
5. Major cable management.

So far i only got 1 done.

The rest will follow in the weekend when i have some light after i come back home from work.

I still need to clean the case out a bit.

My avatar is to represent the frustration ive had lately.
And because of such fustration, i am gonna spam the end of this thread with benchmarks of nadeshiko going head to head against Lind.

I think that will show you why ive been raving about intel's new 32nm hexcore.
and maybe people will actually believe me when i say get ready for i9 pwnage.

The REV C. TRUE is pretty close the Megahalems. I've used both. The Shadow version of the Mega has a more polished base. We're splitting hairs here, however.

The fan holder on the TRUE is much better than using wire clips which I cannot use. I killed a DFI X48 board because of those stupid wire clips. One popped off and sent the wire right into the Crucial Ballistix Tracers which smoked the RAM and board. I actually laughed because the POS memory was dead. Killed a QX9650 that did 4.4GHz at 1.4V though.

The TRUE Rev C has a completely different mounting system. It's similar to the Prolimatech although uses stamped steel parts instead of cast aluminum. Both mounts are decently sturdy.

So in fear of me getting lynched by you guys, i made some progress..

The board has been installed.

I had to do some moving around for cable management.
I think i might need to move it again once more because of the location of the exhaust from the hard drives.

Well you guys will get more tomorrow.
I still need to install a few more parts + the PSU and then the real cable management.

Ummm yes i have a ziptie holding up that controller.
The PCI holder on that controller was wierd. It was reverse, and was interfering with my other cards.

This solution seems to work well. I will have a video card sitting right over it.
