Not just any DOMS though... that special kind of DOMS when you haven't lifted anything for a month and you just got back to it. Can barely go up the stairs DOMS.

I took a month off to revise for exams and it worked fantastically. But now im back to SL 5x5 and the DOMS from Mondays workout is still pretty sore. Should I just push through it or give it a rest until Friday? Im a fan of listening to the signals my body is giving me... but what do you guys think?

The rule of thumb I use is that if warmup sets and light movement (jogging/jumping jacks/jump rope/etc) don't help to improve the soreness even slightly, then I will not workout and will instead just continue to rest. Typically though, a good warmup will usually ease the soreness a bit provided you haven't sustained any injuries.

Especially early on, that DOMS is pretty normal. The goal would be to go back to the gym. However, especially if you're incredibly sore, you can do a couple of things: keep the workout body weight or just add the bar. It'll still benefit you and get you used to lifting again, but will still keep you at a low risk of injury. You should recover by Friday and then resume from Monday's workout.

I hateeeeee DOMS. I recover especially slowly, and I can have it up to 4-5 days straight, with complete relief coming on like the 6th day or so. Luckily, that hasn't happened in a long time and I usually only get sore now for about 1-2 days.

I had to look up what DOMS was, lol. The best thing for it, I've found, is just to work out again. Any time I've been sore, I just push through if the muscle group comes up again before it subsides. I've never had a problem after the warm up.

Same here.
Damn acronyms

I only know because my g/f is a PT and I complained to her one day that I was insanely sore after doing deadlifts at a much higher intensity than I was used to.

I call that "actually feeling like I've worked out". AFLIWO

Work up to about 50-70% of your usual weights or a bit higher if it's safe to do so. You will feel much better after warming up and doing some exercise.

No no... That feeling is the slightly stiff, slightly sore feeling the next day and maybe the day after. DOMS leaves you barely able to even function if it's bad enough.

I had it in my legs, in almost every muscle and I literally couldn't walk right for 3 days. Probably looked like I got plowed in the bumbum or something....

PS not sure what AFLIWO means so maybe my post makes no sense in relation to that.

Ah... haha yes okay makes sense.

Well my comment still stands then. Maybe I am different, but when I get real DOMS, I can barely move whatever muscle group is sore.

If I get it in my chest, I can't even put gel in my hair or scratch my head, haha. Luckily, I've been lifting heavy now for about 10 weeks straight, and my soreness is pretty minor if any now.

I get DOMS only when I've been on holiday for 2 weeks or so. I get back and I"m sore for about 3-4 days. But once back in to my regular training routine I rarely get DOMS to that degree. I may get a bit of DOMS but nothing major.

That is the soreness I mean. And, I force myself to work out again. It stops really hurting after the warm up.

I actually don't get that often (mostly, because I never take more one day off for a specific group). I love the feeling after working out though. I am in the gym regardless of how I feel. I likely have a problem. =(

The gym can be an addiction of sorts. I know when I switched from 5x a week to 4x a week, my day off felt like I was missing something. I got kind of anxious and for a while got a bit depressed and thought my results would slow.

Thankfully, they improved and now I am ok with it. I've found the best remedy for me to help with DOMS when I do get it though is to foam roll. Holy F#$k is it painful but it helps a lot. IT band foam roll when that puppy is tight?

Fighting fit today! Stark contrast to the barely able to lift feeling on Wednesday. DOMS is still there but very mild, barely feel it. Now to build back up to the strength I was before!

I honestly don't know if I get DOMS or if it's simply sore muscles but occasionally I'll have a kick-ass day where I'm so full of energy, I go for another set or crank up the weights higher than what my progression needs.

Unfortunately, the next 2-3 days I'm paying for with DOMS or sore muscles, even when I haven't been taking a break from working out.

I do foam roll a lot and it's such a pain/pleasure feel.

Regardless, I work out if I have the sore muscle/DOMS and end up needing to drop a set or the weight a little bit or else I feel like my muscles are on fire.

BTW, I am on a cut so that probably complicates things.

I work out with DOMS. Usually I work different body parts. I only get debilitating DOMS from after leg day!

Just give yourself an extra rest day or two until your body gets used to it. It's not a big deal. What's important is your back to working out.
