I'm always turning down the thermostat at work and the females complain it's too cold. I say put a sweater on because I can't come in a wife beater. Suck it up ladies

Cold always wins right?

The women always get their way... Turn it way down low and then break it.

I hate this. Half our our women have space heaters because it is "too cold" then I go to work on their PCs and it's like a fucking sauna. We don't have any sort of corporate dress code so fucking wear whatever to stay warm.

Completely agree. They get to wear open-toed shoes, tanks, etc. and complain it's too cold. If I ever came to work wearing a wife beater and flip flops I would be completely grilled. Put a sweater on and shut up.

On the flip side my building is controlled by my boss to "save electricity" and it's horribly insulated so everyone freezes in winter. Space heaters aren't exactly allowed either (cause of the electricity, and maybe a little bit the fire risk), so either bundle up a lot or freeze.

I once worked with a pair of girls who I swear were anaemic or something. They worked the weekend shifts. As soon as they got in the studio, they'd immediately crank the heat to full blast. It was a damper controlled system (like your car) so I don't know what the exact temp was, but it must have been at least 80F. I'd come in Monday morning and it'd be boiling in there. Which is no fun when you're wearing a suit.

Worst was the month were the damper got stuck open on the maximum setting. We had to open the door between hits or we'd pass out. They ran the heat in that building way too high.

Despise the women in my office. I am constantly toasty and the women are constantly freezing. PUT A DAMN JACKET ON! If you're going to come to work in short sleeves and a skirt, I have no sympathy for you. We have a dress code, and I have to be here in long pants and long-sleeve shirt or full suits depending on the day. It pisses me off to no end.

If the women were willing to work topless I would allow the thermostat to be wherever they want.

A couple of weeks ago two of the engineers here almost came to blows over the thermostat setting. I guess that might be a sign that continual 60+ hour work weeks might not be good for company morale.

The solution to this is more thermostats. Place one near where the people bitch the most and just don't hook it up. Problem solved.

lol - I didn't realize how many other guys feel my pain. I'm not fat and I dress normally for a casual office (polo shirt, slacks). Almost to a woman they're moaning about how cold it is in the room year round. The only one who didn't complain (for awhile anyway) was a woman going through menopause and having hot flashes for months.

A man's hair keeps his cold clothes from touching his skin and creates an insulating fur layer.

Brilliant! Make sure to hide where the real thermostat is located.

I actually received the suggestion from the owner of an HVAC company who had a client with the same problem. He suggested to give the women more thermostats but not connect them to anything and used battery powered ones.

He said the complaints stopped once they felt they were in control of the system.

Agreed w/ OP... it's much easier to warm up than it is to cool down

Pisses me off even more because most of us in the office actually leave the office to go work in the mill where it's hot as hell, and we'd like to be able to cool off in our own office when we get back.

Shesh, i already had to back away from a womans desk today because of a little personal heater running... and she was wearing a coat!

I think anyone suffering from being cold at the office or at home should invest in heated cloths or hot water bottles. both, i think, would do a better job than space heaters. especially when the general office is still running the damn AC. I'd guess, without looking into figures of coarse, that heated cloths or hot water bottles would save on electricity use as they heat the bothered subject more than the surroundings.

Hell, we have boilers running to heat water that gets circulated around so you have pretty instant hot water at the sinks because both women and many "men" here can't stand to wash their hands in cold water. and the water temp seems too hot to me. I only get a brief feel for it using a sink right after someone used hot water.

Edit: perpetually cold people should also invest in some good old thermal underwear/longjohns. It's how i kept warm ridding an atv and camping in the winter. They work great. so great i can't wear them unless it's a good bit below freezing and i'm going to be outside for a long time. Oh, washing cars in the winter was another good time to use them

My last workplace was very cold, like too cold to wear short sleeve shirts. We had a lot of overweight people and they would sweat when they stood up. It was always a constant battle to keep the temp reasonable. I work from home now and it's always comfy.

Sabotage the thermostat so it appears that they can adjust it but it doesn't do anything.

This. Use the placebo effect to yoru advantage.

A good landlord trick is to make a "dummy thermostat" that lets the tenant adjust a temperature but wont really control anything. The real thermostat that controls temp is located in the return for the air handler and cant be tenant accessed. For hot water systems with no air return, a landlord thermostat that wont turn the heat beyond a certain setting is equally effective.

wow. what kind of ghetto slumlord won't give the tenements access to a thermostat so they can keep the apartment at a temp they want?

A former workplace banned space heaters and toasters... that didn't stop the guy next to me from running his piece of shit toaster daily, or every other female from having a block heater under their desk.

How cold are you setting it? I find 20C or lower is too cold for a sit down job, but like 21-22 is just perfect. Anything above and it's starting to get hot. Then you get the people that are STILL cold when it's like 25. WTF?

If it's only a few people that complain then they need to just suck it up. I like the idea of putting in fake thermostats lol.

Also on similar subject whenever you are in a building where you can't control the heat but know where the sensor is (it's usually a thermostat but with no way to change it) you can just use a can of compressed air to get the heat to turn on, or use a soldering iron or other heat source to get the AC to turn on. Of course you have to keep it up as it wont turn the heat or AC on for long till it gets back to normal temp.
