Workstation Question

So, I have a client that needs a basic machine with a monitor/keyboard/speakers and such. Wondering if it would be best to just order a dell or something. I have checked some of the prices on newegg, and it doesn't save so much when you need everything with it. I priced out a C2D with 2 gigs of ram, 320 gig hdd, 22" monitor, Wireless keyboard, mouse, speakers, and it came to about $900 bucks with shipping and whatnot.

Anyone have any suggestions? Client is only using the computer for quickbooks, and remote desktop (gotomypc). That's pretty much it.

OK - but that is not a work station. You are talking basic computer - different beast. Lots of choices there.

Unless you want to be the one doing all of the support for it yes I'd go with something from Dell. And as corkyg noted what you're asking for is a basic PC, not a workstation.

Yes, workstations consist of high end processors (something quad core, or maybe even Dual dual cores these day)s, with 4GB of RAM or higher, RAID array capability usually built in, huge hard drives and sometimes REALLY nice graphics cards for doing 3D design work (*cough* or gaming on off hours *cough*)... the Quad core machine I use at the office for my work was around $1700 after all the drives and the video card were added. The base machine was around $1000. I do a lot of IT related things, i have VMWARE workstation installed so the memory and storage is a must, it has three 1TB HDD's in it, in a "3 in 2" drive cage on RAID 5 so i wont lose anything.

For what you are talking about doing, you could get away with a 5 year old P4 single core machine and the user wouldnt know the difference.
