Can we have some retroactive outrage over the Women's Grand Prix Tournament held this past Feb. in Iran?
Today I learned that deciding women should carry rape babies is defending women's rights, and having them wear headscarves is stomping all over their rights. Thanks, TexasHiker, don't know what I'd do without you!

"Cover your hair to honor our local custom, please.".
World Chess Federation has told women they must cover their hair while competing in 2017 tournament being held in Iran.

Why do European nations and the United States give in to middle eastern nations when it comes to womens rights? Even the so called champion of womens rights, hillary clinton, wore a head scarf while visiting the middle east.
When are liberals going to demand we take a stand for womens rights? It seems a slap in the face to talk about womens rights, and then give in when a nation of the middle east says women have to cover up.
Personally, tell iran to piss off. The tournament can be held in a nation that respects womens rights.
Does it need to be a "hate hard-on" or can I simply point out that its sexist to make the women wear what they are forced to wear?
There is no mock pity from me, I love women.
The liberal left pretends to care about womens rights, then when something like this comes along they sit on their hands. Even the champion of womens rights (hillary) gave in when she visited the middle east and wore a head scarf.
The honest truth is conservatives care more about women than the liberal left.

The World Chess Federation has separate tournaments for men and women. I don't think women's rights is any higher on their priority list than it is on yours.
Dude, the thread exits because of a "hate hard-on"
They have the choice of not participating which, as I understand, at least a few member are planning to do next year. Don't have any info on the recent tournament re boycotts by players.
From the sounds of things the organization (like FIFA and the Olympics) has serious issues and maybe the membership should do something about it.
It's a stupid requirement (most likely agreed to because Iran offered a bunch of money for the tournament) but it's really up to the federation membership to do something about it.
Can I put that up against the Conservative hysterical outrage over long hair, braless women and free love during the Sixties?
I guess when I attended some friends of ours daughters Bat Mitzvah a few years ago, I should have refused to wear a yarmulke and ranted and raged...
Trump wanted to fire women who weren't pretty enough, say employees at his California golf club

Well, if you want to bring up being consistent then he has a point. Many on the left are Pro women's rights and yet they also feel that you must respect cultures.
Surely you must agree that the people who defend the bad parts of Islamic culture in this case are not from the Right. I suspect your argument will be that they do it for the wrong reasons, but it would then be pointed out that the left defends the wrong thing for the right reasons, which seems equally stupid.
I also visited a Jewish temple and my Jewish friend explained to me that I should wear it out of respect. I had no problems with doing that even though I'm a non-believer. I don't have a problem with being respectful of cultures and religions and traditions.
Most of the people in this thread don't even care about the story, they just really enjoy using Texashiker as a punching bag because it makes them feel more smug.
The issue isn't simply that Iran has a culture of forcing women to wear head-scarves. The issue is that this is a Western international sports organization failed to ask its representatives how they felt about playing in a restrictive, sexist nation.
Of course not, the NFL has handed down harsh penalties (like a two game suspension) for players who beat up women.I don't follow chess, but I'm fairly certain the reason is that most of the greatest chess players have been male and that it would be unfair to women to require them to compete against men. Do you think the NFL hates women's rights too?
Do you think the issue is about sexism? If not then why do you think others are wrong. I find the organization to be furthering the sexism of Iran. Saying people should respect other cultures seems rather dismissive for the situation.
women shouldn't be forced to dress any different than men. .

This is definitely an attack the OP since there's no way to defend this thread. Insane that the would follow through with this. I dont care if it's Islamic or Christian or ancient Egyptian customs or what, women shouldn't be forced to dress any different than men. Having to cover their hair or face or anything is a huge slap in the face to women everywhere. It's 2016, it's time the Middle East get with the times rather than women from the rest of he world curtailing to them.
But back to the point, do men have a natural biological advantage over women in chess?
Judit Polgár (born 23 July 1976) is a Hungarian chess grandmaster. She is generally considered the strongest female chess player of all time.[1] In 1991, Polgár achieved the title of Grandmaster at the age of 15 years and 4 months, at the time the youngest to have done so, breaking the record previously held by former World Champion Bobby Fischer. She was the youngest ever player to break into the FIDE Top 100 players rating list, ranking No. 55 in the January 1989 rating list, at the age of 12.[2] She is the only woman to qualify for a World Championship tournament, having done so in 2005. She is the first, and to date, only woman to have surpassed the 2700 Elo rating barrier, reaching a career peak rating of 2735 and peak world ranking of No. 8, both achieved in 2005. She was the number 1 rated woman in the world from January 1989 up until the March 2015 rating list, when she was overtaken by Chinese player Hou Yifan; she was the No. 1 again in the August 2015 women's rating list, in her last appearance in the FIDE World Rankings.
