The excuse is the same as hockey and the NFL .... athletes get worn out by potentially endless OT.

Note however that these rules don't apply in the playoffs anymore in the NFL at least.... the game is decided by an actual play on the field the way it should be no matter how long it takes.

Not sure what the solution is but this sport will never rival the "big 3" pro sports here in America unless they can work in more action and scoring. (changes I don't see happening)

I think a good starting point would be to give the teams an additional 3-4 subs for extra time, schedule a 20 minute break then play a full 45 min half.

The issue with football unlike other sports is there are no short breaks and or a consistent substituting/rotating players in and out, these guys run full marathons each match just in regular time let alone playing 120 minutes.

LoL each AF team has two set of players and each set play half the game... Plus they don't run anywhere near the mileage the soccer players do.

And there is no reason why soccer has to change just to keep American ADD happy.

I watch soccer and NFL football .... aside from both being team sports they're not exactly comparable.

If you've ever actually watched NFL football you will know that it's an insanely fast and BRUTAL IMPACT sport while soccer is just aerobically exhausting most of the time.

If the NBA can play basketball until somebody actually wins in the playoffs so could FIFA with a few minor rule-changes around subs.
