There's no doubt in my mind. That's the problem with top tier teams; they always underestimate their 'lesser' opponents. Argentina learned this lesson early on (I hope) and not putting Ronaldo in the starting lineup definitely had an impact.Morocco earned it.

they do run a lot of course, but they also aren't doing it while getting legally driven into the dirt or their heads constantly smashed in. I'd like to see them run like they do after instituting AF tackling rules, lol--but I also think the way tackling and smashing faces is done in AF is also stupid. They need to get back to Rugby style tackling, which I think would improve the game tremendously.
AF, and I guess Americans in general, get this nonsense hardon for watching other people try to kill themselves. It's both terrible for the players and also really bad for the game--e.g, the insistence of being "as brutal as allowed" actually leads to really bad defensive plays giving up offensive gains and soring. Rather than an LB or safety lining up their hits from a distance to try and torpedo a player into the ground, with a vastly increased chance of actually missing and not stopping the play--which is their only meaningful goal on that play--I think they should focus on actual tackling to grab the player and stop their progression, or break up the pass, whatever.
We are a stupid people, and so we lionize general stupidity in our sportsballing entertainments.

Rugby is at least partially comparable to the NFL in terms of violence but even it doesn't compare in terms of high-speed collisions. (sometimes at a combined 40 mph +)
I watch soccer but only for big events like the World Cup.... take away the "national fervor" and it's just a bunch of guys kicking a ball around.

Soccer is a simplistic game rule-wise and takes a few minutes at most to understand, if not to appreciate fully.
