World Cup Streaming Online

BBC will be offering the World Cup games streaming online

My question...is there a service being offered for the US? Even if it's a pay service?

Check out the following programs: pplive, tvants, or ppstream. PPlive probably easiest to use and should show all the matches. Most are in chinese though.

Looks cool...I'm on vacation until Sunday. Apparently my sister's ISP doesn't have it. I hope my dad's ISP allows it, otherwise my search continues.

You sure? Last world cup I remember the only way I was able to watch most of the matches was Pay Per View

I assure you pplive will stream the matches. Download it and set it up, look for the following channels:

CCTV5, GDTV sports, SDTV sports, shangxai sports, espn. All available through there. I would watch any of the premiership or serie a matches that they wouldnt show on tv.

Goddarnit, looks like I'm SOL. BBC is bound to be overloaded and I don't get ESPN360.

Anybody got a working proxy server I can use to watch ESPN360?

But how is high of resolution? Is it something I can only watch in a 4" by 3" window on my desktop? I'd want something I can put full screen without grainy pixelated crappy picture...

do you have any spanish tv stations in your area? i set up espn360 for my dad, but the quality wasnt that great considering he's on a 768k dsl line. i looked at some of the spanish stations and their schedule online. univision has matches 2 or 3 times a day. you can mute the volume, or leave it on to hear those crazy announcers say GOAALLLLL....lol.

just checked Yahoo! TV starting june 9th, espn and espn2 are showing the matches constantly

So it was just stuttering because of lack of bandwidth? Do you recall what resolution options are available with ESPN360?

The World Cup is on XM Satellite Radio. I don't know if it's one of the streaming channels, but I really don't care. With my MyFi, I can hear it anywhere.

it would play for thoe most part, but at points (maybe 15-20 minutes in) the video would start to lag. this is on a laptop w/ a 1280x960 widescreen display. there was no resolution option but i guess it upscales in fullscreen mode. i think the quality is comparable to wmv/flash/youtube videos.

For some reason, the sports channels at pplive doesn't load for me. Other channels work ok though. Already overloaded before the world cup? Please tell me this is not the case.

According to Wikipedia, Since PPLive video stream depends on the network connection and peer numbers, the occasional glitch such as the short pause during the viewing or re-buffer is not unusual. In some circumstances, the stream could stop completely if source video file crashes or not enough peers available to establish a smooth streaming.

Seems like it's more like bittorrent, the more peers the better.
