What even more sad is that you and your ilk are pushing tons of mercury into our homes and landfills as an "alternative" to safe incandescent lighting.

Because that's what people in this thread are saying right? Go ahead and keep making dishonest arguments and setting up strawmen.

I have CFLs in my house, but I don't pretend they're "green". They're there to save a few bucks on electricity.

CFLs are green in that they require less energy generation and transmission, which in turn means less pollution. Even hydro and nuclear disrupt riparian and/or aquatic environments.

Can't follow a conversation?

I gave examples of freedoms lost. One was the mandatory switch to CFLs in new construction in CA. Also the push top ban incandescent light bulbs.

Why do you think this is happening? To save ME money? No. It's because of the MMGW scam and all of it's consequences.

No strawmen here.

You have no Right to Incandescent Lighting.

You asked me what freedoms I had lost.

You have no right to a turkey sandwich. Would you oppose a ban on them?

Of course.

Not all freedoms are rights.

Not all rights are enumerated in the Bill of Rights.

Some of the Founding Fathers feared people like you would come along and try to limit liberty by claiming a freedom is not an enumerated right. Others claimed the Bill of Rights wasn't necessary and even harmful.

My, how prophetic they were.

And on the flip side, YOU and our government have no right to tell me I cannot use incandesent lightbulbs.

Somehow I doubt the FF would be upset about this. Your Rights are not being are not being Infringed.

I beg to differ, I think they would be most upset. "Here's a light bulb. We're not going to let you buy it because we don't think it's wise. We're going to make you buy this one instead because we know best." It's the nanny state in its extreme.

I use and like compact fluorescent lamps; I think their light is fine and that they have big advantages in efficiency. And frankly I get irritated if a client insists on incandescent lighting. But incandescents work fine in some situations. I urge people to use compact fluorescent lamps - but much as I like them I prefer freedom, if I have to choose between the two.

There are many things you'll never get the Freedom to choose, because they have been disallowed for one reason or another. The only difference between Them and Incandescent Lighting is that for a time Incandescent Lighting was practically your only choice. Removing Incandescent Lighting as a choice is no more an Infringement on Freedom as removing CFC's from Refrigerators was an Infringement on Freedom.

Amused's stance on Freedom is simply Stupid and non-existant.

Then I take it you support the war on drugs and bans on gay marriage?

No I don't. Different issues.

But, but but, drugs and marriage aren't rights!!!

Are you going to admit you switched "freedoms" for "rights" in a vain attempt to "win" this debate or will this go on and on???

No, I didn't. Rights/Freedoms are intertwined, but not exactly the same concept. Rights being very Rigid and Freedoms being much less Rigid and modifiable for various reasons by Society either through Law or other means.

Jesus have these idiots ever heard the saying, "better safe that sorry?" Nobody knows for sure.

I'll admit there is a good 50% global warming is not real.

Would the non believers be so reasonable admit that there is a 1% chance that it could be real?

If so, I think 1% is more than enough to warrant concern.

Lets say it turns out to not be real. What harm will have been done? NONE. We'll have a nicer, cleaner less polluted planet. OMG how freaking horrible!!!

IMO, ANYBODY that will state unequivocally that global warming is real or not real is a MORON, because there is too much contradictory evidence at this point in time.

You realize the only solution presented is to throw our already disaster of an economy into the toilet, right? To decease our standard of living. Screw people who say we should take that on blind faith.

Right because we have so much to be concerned about when it comes to standards of living. God forbid I have to cancel my HBO. The vast majority of Americans have cell phones, high speed internet, air conditioning, flat screen TVs. We're unbelievably spoiled.

Frankly I do not think standard of living even matters because regardless of how good or how bad it is, people are too selfish to make even small sacrifices for the greater good.

The sacrifices as they stand won't help. Cap and trade is a joke.

Your concept of the greater good is also in dispute.

Look I'm with you 100% on cap and trade. Moronic idea if I have ever heard of one.

edit: I mean, really, really, insanely stupid.

I saw nothing of "rights" in your original question. You responded to my answers with "you have no right to incandescent lighting and tried to keep saying I had no right to this that or the other when I was speaking of freedoms.

And BTW, your definition is why we are headed down the slope into authoritarianism. I should have the right to be free to do as I please so long as I am not harming others. Incandescent lighting harms no one.
