Wrong I have a dual core 4600+ and I can get triple digits with vsync off.

Well I'll have to find the patch notes when I get home from work but I could have sworn I read that using dual core cpu's limited the frame rate to some weird value like 62 fps.

They fixed it. I'm frequently over 80 FPS using an X2 3800+ and X1900XT.

The NEW x1950gt performance is on par with a 7900gt and should be around 175.00$ out soon. Don't buy a 400.00$ video card unless you need it! This guys running a pent D too.
In my opinion the only thing you'll need a 8800 for (in WoW) is 200 fps which looks the same as 60fps. Unless you play first person shooters (waiting for Crysis?) your wasting your money on a 8800.

Hm, true. However, X1950Pro have better Benchmark and Gaming results compared to the new x1950gt, the gt may be a bit cheaper, i'll probably go for the X1950 Pro Gigabyte (512). The gt and pro version has about the same price range here in Sweden .

I must admit I know nothing about prices in Sweden. The 1950gt is 149.00$ at new egg here now. Thats a shame . Good luck

Thats nice, 256 mb onboard memory though. Videocard prices seems to drop quite fast, That sapphire card over at newegg, komplett.se here in Sweden have that card also, at about the same price.

Thought of this card: http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.asp?sku=327195
Price is a little bit above 270, converted from kr to usd.

I use to get the cap with my Ati at 64 fps even with vsync off, now with my 8800 it no longer does it so maybe it was an Ati thing. I even had this discussion with people in my guild and someone said it was fixed a while ago, yet at the time I still got the cap, so its kinda strange and like I said could be related to dual core and Ati cause the only thing I changed was my vid card. Even posting about the cap issue on the blizz forums didnt get me any answers.

Also, a X1900XT or up would work ok too. Just make sure you pick the 512MB versions because some will come in cheaper 256MB versions also, and that wouldn't work out so well for a display of that size.

QFT.
For that res, 512MB is a must. Anything lower, 256 will suffice.

I'm running WoW at 1920x1200 with most options maxed using a BFG 7950GT OC. The game runs great and is very smooth and stable. I have found that I don't get any significant tearing with V-sync off, so I play with it off. I couldn't be more happy playing WoW.

I had been running with a x1950Pro in the AGP slot on my motherboard (I have a hybrid MB with both AGP and PCI-E slots) and had a lot of stability issues that were either driver related or the card was defective (I ended up RMA'ing the card). I then switch to the BFG 7950 GT OC and have not had a single crash in over a month.

If I had a motherboard that supported an 8800 series card, I would have gone with that, but unfortunately the 8800 series does not work with my MB.

You have another otherwise top notch rig, I would lose the ASRock mobo if I was in your shoes. Not to be rude, but your rig doesn't make any sense... 150GB Raptor, Conroe, PCP&C 750W PSU, X-Fi, and a ~$60 ASRock motherboard?

Lol...yes - you are smacking me with the "correct" on that one. The reason I originally went with the ASROCK was because I had an AGP video card.

I actually have another rig that I'm putting together in which the ASROCK MB and the 7950 are going to go into in a few months. My current rig will be upgraded with a nVidia 680 based MB and likely 8900 based video card.

Hi there,

I can't seem to get big fights to stay over 40fps with my rig. I have adjusted all of the various settings, but it seems to always be the same. I get really good rates most of the time, but places like Shattrah, AV, Kara etc. I am in the high 20's to mid 30's.

AMD X2 4200
X1900XTX
HP version of an Asus mobo
2GB DDR2 533
500W PS

I run at 4xAA and no AF @1280x1024. Everything is maxed, except for terrain distance, which I keep at about 2 notches below the middle.

Any suggestions to get better rates? I get the exact same FPS if I go to 800x600. I'm confused as to why.

I posted about the mobo in another thread, as I think it's probably the culprit, but I would appreciate any advice you might have

Turn down the AA, should help out a lot in increasing frame rates.

IMO, you'll actually get better IQ out of WoW with 4x Supersampling Transparency AA than you will with 16xQ AA without transparency.

I think you have to have nHancer to do it though.

settings:

Supersampling
2x2
Enhance in-game AA setting
Super- Transparency AA

...then set the AA to 4x in the game.

That gets rid of pretty much all the aliasing on all the trees and foliage, which is prevalent in WoW. Give that a try, and tell me what you think.

Also, the best place I've found in WoW for testing both IQ and performance is in Terrokar forest right out side of Shattrath. Just hop on your flying mount in Shat and fly over Terrokar towards the Bone Wastes. Your fps will probably drop lower in this area than in almost any other. I play on a PVP server, so it's nice to be able to tweak my setup in an area close to a neutral city as well.

I used to play WoW at 1920x1200 w/ all settings at high on a 512MB 8600GTS. Game was smooth until I went into heavily populated areas.
