Yeah, I'm more interested in a discussion on how to save a few bucks than you monkeys talking about things you actually don't have any idea about.

I was tempted to do the buy.com's special - they have the collector's edition for $67.91, and a "5 off 50" coupon available (though 2-day shipping adds about 9 bucks). I'm not going to opt for it, though, since I want to start playing the day it's released.

Don't forget if you buy it at CC or BB (or anywhere else with a low price guarantee), if they selll the game for a lower price within a month (which they will most assuredly do), you can get the difference + maybe 10% back.

So Circuit City will indeed honor Buy.com's lower CE Price? If so I'll just buy from CC since they look like they are solid. I might even pick it up if its on the way home from work. I don't want to buy from Buy.com since their customer rating doesn't look solid, some are even a little shady like delivering being very late.

Why are some people crying about the costs of the game, don't cry and don't play, I don't want to play with a bunch of whinny b!tches

Oh, and uh, last time I check, Blizzard is a for profit company, not a non-profit org, so, shut the hell up.

Yep, that's it everyone. Gothgar, and others, have spoken. Free speech is no longer tolerated. If you think you're being wronged, don't complain. Just shut up and act like it's not happening! Let me give this a try...

I LOVE paying $2/gallon of gas.
I LOVE paying $5 for a cup of pop at the movies.
I LOVE paying $70 for cable TV.

Your analogies doesn't really apply to World of Warcraft imo. Anyway back to the topic, I just ordered from buy.com using 6% off for $4 extra off, the $5 coupon didn't work. I don't really mind if i get to play a few days after it's released, but the $68.82 total is not a bad deal ($12 off the regular price for collector's edition).

LOL. If only it were *that* easy... trust me, you're way, way, off there.

Sure, a sucessful MMORPG should be able to make money, but it does take time to ramp things up, all those "millions" of customers don't just show up overnight. Not to mention the years of expenses and time spent creating the game in the first place.

Plus, your bandwidth comparisons between commercial backbone bandwidth costs, and oversubscribed, early-rollout essentially beta-test trials of a new service are totally apples and oranges. Those FIOS installs cost nearly $3000 per residence. How long is that going to take to pay off, at $50/mo, assuming that Verizon also has monthly costs of $25-35 per line, for admin, billing, upstream bandwidth, etc.?

Waaay off.

Half Life 2 won't touch these numbers despite the hype. Several of my best friends are Associate Producers and Producers at Vivendit at theiir office in Marina Del Rey and they concede that the companies future lies with this game. 500K may seem like a ton of subscribers but you fellas are forgetting the fact that Blizzard is a culture in Korea. I could see this breaking a million subscribers in a year with ease.

all i'm saying is that i think blizzard (and other companies) are justified in their prices for mmorpg's, and if people don't thats fine, don't buy them. Companies ned to make money, and it's been well proven if you have a mmorpg, people are willing to pay 10-15 dollars a month to play the product.
I think this game will be succesful and blizzard will eventually make a lot of money, but i dont think they are raping us silly on prices. It's possible, but the numbers people have been presenting have been terribly biased and flawed logically. No company sells 1million titles, and makes 55 dollars per title.

Plus for the collecters edition, the things it comes with alone i think makes it worth buying. I would love to have cloth maps of the warcraft world, and a 200page hardcover book (in addition to the game, 1 month, and a guest pass to give to a friend to try out).

I plan on going to fry's in fountain valley at midnight and getting one signed I hope by food and beverages will be available, i hope they mean booze, and that it's free (most unlikely, but i can hope)

Success will bring competition, so dispite my son begging, we aren't jumping on. Almost certainly what Blizzard does is being watched very closely, and the next generation will be better.

Even if that wasn't so, no freaking way am I popping over $100 to play ONE game for 6 months.

BTW anybody else playing the beta (which is over now I guess) experience LOTS of serious lag? Pretty clearly Blizzard is looking at providing only the very minimum of service.

Haha. I love all of you guys complaining.

Don't like it? Don't buy it!

Yea, they're going to make millions. Well, maybe you can come up with an idea that'll make as much money. No? Then shut up.

This isn't something like the only telephone provider in town charging 70 bucks a month for a basic line. This is entertainment. They have competitors. They have customers. They have a product customers would be willing to pay more for. They win, you lose.

EDIT: Oh yea, I'm not buying the game because I don't like paying monthly either. But, I admit it is a good game and better then what else is out there.

Aside from that, this is like watching a 2 hour movie in some movie theatre but for as long as you want in the confort of your home while you get to choose what happens.

I played the beta as well and thought the game was pretty cool. I didn't experience to much lag and the game was addictive. I enjoyed it, but man I can't afford to pay the monthly fee. To tell the truth I wish they would just charge more for the game up front and skip out on the monthly fees, or lower the cost of the game a bit and then charge the fees. But like others said, whatever this captalistic society of ours decides we can and are willing to pay for a good or service, that's what they'll charge.

Good luck to all those who buy the game and have some fun for me, as I'll be taking finals.

FYI - if you read the fine print on the 5-off coupon, it says it only applies to "In stock - ships in 1 to 2 days" items, and since WoW is still in "presale - ship when arrives" the coupon won't work, so I'm guessing you'll have to wait until the day of its release to purchase with that 5-off discount.

I am just disappointed the beta is over..thought it would last until game came out..now have to wait another month to play. This game really reminds me of what eq 1 used to be like...so fun to play that its addicting...could be good..could be bad..depends on how you look at it...but sleep is for the weak anyways

Meh...a good deal for the game, I guess...but I don't care for the game at all.
I had a quick see of it during the beta, and I wasn't impressed. It's almost like Blizzard is banking on the formula: mediocre MMORPG + warcraft theme = success.
Maybe I'm a bit harsh. Regardless, I just cannot stand ANY sequel made by Blizzard.
WC2 felt like a big expansion to WC1.
WC3 felt like a graphical overhaul, combined with the feeling was that all you needed to do was beef out a hero and you won. They added other races, which was nice, but still...I just could not get into the game.
Diablo...I loved that game so much. Played it for years, and couldn't wait for D2 to be released.
D2 gets released, I go through it and beat it...and I'm not that happy. A lot of the things they changed I wasn't happy with, and the update in graphics didn't even feel as significant as I thought it should have been considering how long the game was in development. D2 just felt like a really long expansion.

Starcraft...my favorite RTS of all time. So many good years with that game.
I almost want Blizzard to make a sequel, but I'm afraid they're going to funk it up.
Ah well...enough of my babbling. I'm sure most of you don't even care about my personal grievances with a game, and I apologize for ranting

Guild Wars seems like a game I will be playing in the future. I was quite impressed with it, as well as impressed by the fact that there will be no monthly fee associated with playing the game.

Does anyone think it will still be available on the thursday (25th) of it's release? That's the most convenient time I'll really be able to get a hold of it and play right away. If not, should I pre-order asap? Can you picematch a pre-order, like to Best Buy?

I don't really see much variation in MMORPG possibilties. Only small features make each unique and with those fit individuals tastes. I seem to like heavily fantasy-types as this will be my 1st MMORPG purchase. I played private RO servers way back, so even though I've seen gradual change of MMORPG's, WoW is a big jump to what I played before. While complex, intuitive-ish controls and if there can be a mod to it like CosmoUI for WoW open beta, it makes gameplay strategies all that much more fun and customizable for even greater specific needs.

The only people that might run out are those who put the price really low, ie I could see Fry's putting a pallet in each store, but at a price that lines people up and they all go.

I actually am quite interested to see how this crop of $50 games fairs in stores.

I used to complain about MMORPGS like some have here all time time. "I'm never going to pay for the game and THEN pay a monthly fee to play the game" I would say stuff like that.

Then I actually played the open beta of World of Warcraft.

Now the beta is closed and I am going through withdraw. I have other games I can play, but NONE are as fun as World of Warcraft. The game is GREAT. I'll probably pay for 6 months up front to make it 13 a month.

For those of you who BASH the pay for play, try out a good MMORPG before you do so. 15 bucks a month is NOTHING compared to an outing at the movies (movie, popcorn, etc), and this game is a lot more fun than watching a movie.

My friend said they keep your account even after you may call it quits and not pay-to-play monthly (or 3- or 6-month program), so you can continue if u get re-interested or have/make more freetime to play.

To all complaining about the price or the monthly subscription. Thats so insignificant compared to the amount of time you will spend playing the game. I played the open beta and must admit its the most addicting game since Diablo II in its prime.
The reason I won't be playing the retail though is because I can't afford to invest 60 hours a week into a game. First of all I go to school, and it will most likely hurt my grades tremendously, and also imagine working somewhere instead of playing a game, the amount of money you will lose by not working and playing the game is much more than $15.
P.S
Once again, I absolutely loved the game, and actually am going through a withdrawl myself.

Dang everyone complainin about paying $50 for the game and then a monthly fee, but I am paying the $80 for the collector's edition! I played in the closed beta and it is worth every cent. They are also releasing alot of new content at release. Should be a great game. Also EQ2 was $50 and a $90 collector's edition.
