I don't want to spark a debate so I will be as specific as possible with my questions. I played WOW for about 3 months after it came out. The impending release of its second hyped expansion has me wondering some things:

1) If I was to return, do I absolutely have to play with a group and commit a huge block of time to accomplishing goals, or can I log in at my leisure and hammer out a few quests by myself?

2) Do people still squabble over the natural resources of the game? I remember that being quite prominent in the early stages.

Thank you very much.

1) You can easily solo quests with most (if not all) classes. I do a lot of soloing when I quest but obviously I group for instances and raids.

2) Maybe on highly populated servers but for the most part that doesn't happen on any servers I play on.

1) no you can do like 80% of the game solo, WoW really is solo friendly, however your goals might fall into that other 20% which requires a group of people and some time invested

2) IDK what your asking here,

They made it very solo friendly.

You can solo your way through very easily.. resources are rather plentiful

You can get psuedo raid gear by just doing BG at 70 or Arena (require a group)

The game is more solo friendly than it has ever been.

I work full time and lead a pretty healthy social life so I maybe put in 3-4 hours a night. I usually play the most on weekends, but not much more. I average lvling around once or twice a night. Getting addons like questhelper really speed up the game.

If you're referring to mining nodes or plants and stuff for herbalism... I don't really recall any squabbling over the items early on, but the only time I ever get pissy at someone is if they try to steal a node out from under me (like if I'm fighting the mob that's right by it and they come up to take it). If I see someone fighting by a node, I'll just stand there, and if they leave, I'll take it, if they grab it... no worries.

As has been said it is very solo friendly this was a concern for me when i started playing about a month ago. I hate having to group up for stuff all the time. I have soloed up to 35 with no problems. I have done a couple of dungeons but you can always just sit outside and ask to join a group if you really want to do it. I swore i would never play wow but now i am happily addicted.

There are really only 2 routes you can take with endgame content, raids on the PvE side and arena on the PvP side. Both require significant organization (meaning you have to find a group you can run with week after week) and pretty healthy time commitments if you want to be competitive.

Aside from those two things, pretty much everything can be done either solo or with pickup groups. Just keep in mind that all the best items in the game comes from the stuff I mentioned above.

Levels 1-69: Very solo friendly.
Level 70: Not so much.

It happens to me a few time. But the one that piss me off the most was, I already got the first ore. Then a guy flew down stole it right under me. Because of lag or a slow clicker, all I got was being used or something like that... :|

The game has always been solo friendly really.. I've played since a month after launch. You could always skip the instances and outdoor elite quests if you wanted to. Plenty of other quests so you can level.

Now, they made pretty much all of the outdoor elite quests soloable. They're all regular mobs now with the same quest rewards. The game is a solo heaven now and you can fly all the way to 70 skipping all instances and soloing it.

But what do you do once you've hit 70? Grind battlegrounds forever? Start an alt and do it all over again?

There's almost no solo content in the endgame. That's why all the casual players feel shafted once they get there. It's all easy peasy until you hit max level, and suddenly everything takes organized guilds and months of grinding.

The game is incredibly solo friendly now especially considering you will be experiencing a comparison of how the game was a few months after launch to its current state. It will be even more so in the upcoming expansion.

Grinding and questing are very solo friendly. The endgame isn't, but just let the endgame be the, well, end. Unfortunately this can leave the casual player feeling shafted, as ggnl points out. There are minor story lines to the game, but not a core story line that gives you a sense of completion once finished. This can be a disappointment, especially if your used to games that aren't open ended.

What's the point of just solo'ing in WoW? If you don't have the time to find/farm with a small group or a casual raiding guild I think you'd be best served by a different game. Solo WoW is gonna get old real fast.

Pretty much.. players that like to solo dont have the time to commit to join a group. So with pvp, that's their way to progress in equipment. Grinding BG's and doing arena pvp dont require you to have scheduled playtime and committing so and so hours for your guild.

At least blizzard gave them an option. Back then before the point system, only the players that were grinding BG for grand marshal and high warlord ranks would get the gear. So even then, casual players were getting shafted.. they were just running 10 man ubrs, scholo, and undead stratholme runs for mediocre blue gear.

My WoW question is: Why did they make it so you can't level to 375 Inscription? I got to 365 and have to wait till WotLK comes out to get the rest of the way, to 450 even. =(

Trainers after 355 (I believe) are all in either Dalaran or Northrend. I don't mind at all actually. Making some sweet gold off of Mend Pet and Seal of Command minor glyphs (both going for around 30g per). I've been striking out on getting Seal of the Penguin though.

Ok, next question. I feel like playing horde, what is a nice race/class that is pretty self sufficient and is fun for most players? Bear in mind that I've never played horde and its been years since I have played at all. Thanks again for all the help.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I got a question too... I got a chance to try out WoW for the 1st time, since my friend needs someone to play with and willing to pay for it.

Anyway, since I'm completely clueless about the game and want to get the most out of it during my short time of playing, I need some advice.

What would be a very well rounded character, good for both PvE and PvP? Class? Race? Build? Preferably not very item dependent, because I don't see myself grinding and doing raids. I like Mage and Warrior Like classes... (mage a lot more) Must be able to solo quests, because I probably wont play long enough to get serious with guilds/teams.

Thanx very much!

Yes, if someone steals a node under me, I curse them out for 2 hours with ninja accusations and put them on my friends list so I can curse them out some more whenever they log in again. this happens for the next 2 weeks or until I grow tired or they quit the game. j/k ...

as for which class to play, they are all viable. they are all self sufficient if all you want to do is do quests and solo. non-healing classes just buy food and make bandages. tanks and healers are the most wanted. with dps being very plentiful, you may have a harder time finding groups.

Mage is what you want then since warriors are extremely gear dependent. Probably the most out of any of the classes.

That always sucks, gotta get the vanish / feign death buttons ready so they can aggro on them instead.

BTW, you want EZ Mode? Raise a hunter... along with the pet you can kill mobs 5 levels up, some elites, or even take on 4-5 mobs at once, "solo". After leveling 3 other 70s (rogue/lock/druid), this hunter is a cakewalk.
