Not sure what I'm going to play yet. I borrowed an OB account from a friend for a few days and played a Night Elf Hunter to level 12. I think I'll try a Tauren or Troll when I start the retail game though. I'd like to play a Shaman I think. At least to get a feel for it and see if I like it.

We'll be alliance, Night Elves, Priest (me) with herbalism and alchemy and Hunter with mining/engineering maybe. Not sure on which server though.

PvP is fine, but what's the point? I can imagine being bored with always having to think about other players while questing/hunting in contested areas (80% of zones are contested for those who didn't know). Contested on PvP servers means free for all combat. So 80% of your Wow life will be spent in these areas, more at higher lvls probably?

With rewards maybe this will be ok. Anyone care to comment on this? It's about the only decision we have left to make: PvE or PvP server.

i tried human paladin, night elf rouge, orc warrior and undead mage. i liked mage and rouge the most and i probably tried some classes from tauren too.
First time ever play mmorpg, i was a rouge and met the night elf mage level 20 something, i was level 8. we were party in a cave and start killing things. we were fighting and all the sudden i was hitting by 2 mobs and die in like 7 seconds. Look around to find her and all i got was the message "good luck, gtg" . lol, i couldnt recover the body so change to human paladin. I hope we can have a guild so i can learn some more. I am a noob when it comes to mmorpg

I'm going with PvP, but I do admit there are pros and cons. If you wouldn't ever be interested in hunting Horde while they quest or joining a large raid on one of their areas, just do PvE. PvP also has the chance of being "ganked" by a higher lvl player repeatedly while you try to do a quest, but hopefully you'll have higher level buddies/guildmates who can come kill the guy off. I think it's interesting to fight a human instead of dumb AI most of the time, so I want to play PvP. Even in PvE I think you can still fight the Horde inside their cities if you can get by the guards, or dueling, or Battlegrounds.

Hopefully the honor system and rewards work out well, but I think they saved that for retail.

EDIT: Even PVP isn't total free for all, your fellow Alliance faction people can't kill you on sight.

I'm probably going to go troll rogue. I kinda wanted to try a shaman, but it seems almost inevitable that they will be nerfed soon. I'll probably start a few more characters when things get balanced out a bit more.

I played a shaman to 19 and I have to say they are hardly overpowered. I did tend to win 1v1 against warriors and casters, but high dps characters gave me problems.

ArmchairAthlete: I do enjoy PvP, and agree that fighting other humans is a good thing. BUT, there's nothing to be gained from it. yeah, no rewards/honor system yet so maybe that will change, but I wont know unless I play how it works and if I like it. So, will have to make a decision before hand.

yeah i know allied players cannot attack me and in "green" zones the enemy cannot attack me unless I initiate combat first.

I just dont want pvp to be the primary focus I suppose. Or rather my wife doesn't.

Maybe PvE server would be best. Running around with horde players everywhere but no fighting going on doesn't sound right though. Damnit

The biggest pro for PVP is that it creates an unknown risk to every contested area. Almost every other variable in an mmorpg can be weighed and assessed, but pvp cannot. You always have to expect that a level 50 may be waiting at your quest npc. Unknown risks keep games dynamic.

Tauren Shaman on PvP server. I played in the Open Beta on a PvE server, but I'm going to try PvP at retail.

My reasoning:
1) I'll probably want a PvP character at some point, so it might as well be my first so it's my strongest.
2) On a PvP server, atleast you have the choice to either PvE (quest) or PvP. The PvE server was kinda lame because I would literally be standing beside the enemy and couldn't do anything about it. In addition, some of the best PvE experiences are in instances, which are protected from the otuside world anyway.

Will there be any pvp on non-pvp servers? like special zones, duels, that sort of thing? Would seem kinda lame to even have opposing sides if they can't fight. I hate unrestricted gank warfare but without pvp, games are pointless imo, computer opponenets will never seriously challenge anyone without resorting to stupid crap (like nightmare bots in Q3 that simply never miss etc).

There will be battlegrounds (not sure if they'll be in at release), and I *think* going into enemy territory such as a city flags you for pvp, as well as attacking opposing NPCs.

Not positive yet what I will play. Leaning towards a dwarf paladin. Maybe a gnome warrior or a NE hunter.

As I eluded to in the guild thread, since we don't really have enough people to start an AT guild right off the bat, I'll probably set up a web page tonight so that as people start creating characters they can enter information such as character name, race, server, etc. so that as other people join in they can found out which servers have AT people and if enough people start to congregate on one server they could form into a guild. Also for those that have established guilds I could collect that info as well so that someone looking to join a guild right away can find a server with an established guild.

let us know when the site is up... i'll be playing on pacific time pvp server... just don't know which one cause well, its not out yet. Unfortunately not everybody is from west coast..
