Me:
60 Gnome Mage w/ Epic Mechanostrider on Burning Legion
300 alchemy/300 herbalism

I farm Hearthglen in Western Plaguelands. Level 55-59 elites up there that I can easily solo, and they each have between 10s-25s, runecloth, grey items that merch for 1g-2g, and a high drop rate of greens and blues.

Thanks for the farm info. Do you think I could take some of those with a 56 Hunter? I am very well equipped and my pet should be able to hold aggro if I don't go too nuts with the special shots. Or should I wait a couple levels. Right now I am camping 2 major spots for me.... the Yeti cave SE of Everlook in Winterspring and the Demon camps in Azshara. The chests at the latter spot alwaays seem to have a green or blue item.

One other question.... do epic items ONLY pop in instances? Has anyone ever seen an epic "Purple" drop from a mob outside an instance???

Tant :

The fastest way to level in WoW without a doubt is grinding. At 56 it is most efficient to grind 53ish mobs. Things that are on the upper range of green for you. As such, i wouldn't grind even level elites, despite it being good cash. Plus at lvl 60 you will have your next array of abilities and your last rank of growl which will let you unleaash a bit more dmg.
I would grind out the last 4 levels on green cons, and then farm hearthglen once you're 60. ESPECIALLY if you are on a pvp server, since you'll want to have every advantage you can get in case you get jumped.

also : what's you definition of very well equipped? Mine is a hunter with a core marksman rifle, and full giantstalkers but at lvl 56 i'm not sure that you're at that yet.

As to epic items : it depends. Some BoE epics are what are called random world drops, as in any mob of the appropriate level can drop these. This includes items such as the Glowing Brightwood Staff, Robes of Insight, Dwarven Hand Cannon, etc. BoP epics are generally from instances like the felstriker (UBRS), Headmaster's Charge (scholo), or Tier2 class sets from Molten Core (tier 3 helms from Onyxia). You can use sights liek Thottbot or Allakazham to see where the items drop.

If making money on WoW is anything like in FFXI, then I would suggest that it could take a substantial amount of maturity to pay for stuff on ebay.

If I could be making, say 50 dollars an hour in the outside world, why should I flinch at spending 50 bucks on ebay to get something that would increase my enjoyment of the game, that would otherwise take 5 hours to get?

Thanks for all the insigt. Well equipped? Oh I just mean Every item I have is pretty much in the uber or close to uber range I rarely find items worth buying anymore in the AH that can compete.

To comment on the ebaying to get gold. To me personally its not about time, I too make a subsantial amount of money in the real world and buying 1,000g would not make me flinch either. But it would ruin what is already the best part of the game for me....the road there. It is fun for me to get the items auction them etc, it's fun for me to craft items to sell. I love it. This is what I loved in Diablo so much too. The greed factor appealed to me. Why would I want to ruin it by just buying the gold? What fun would that be.....it's like completing a shooter with cheat codes.

I remember when my life was dictated by a MMORPG. It's so much better now that I don't play them. Feel the power of it. It's got a hold on you. You need to shed that heavy skin. Quit the game and your life will be better than you could ever imagine.

Great advice, once your life is not dicdated by a MMORPG, you can let posting on ATOT dictate your life

I have a 43 Mage, 33 Rogue, and 26 Warrior. The Mage is my favorite, however Blizz totally f'ed it up in some recent patched and caused horrible bugs that prevent me from playing a frost mage correctly. Come to think of it, there are a TON of bugs in this game, it is amazing that Blizzard has so many paying account and so many gamebreaking bugs in the game. I do not want new game content, I want bug fixes

It's something an impatient person would be more likely to do. Since there's a corellation between youth and impatience, it logically follows that there's a corellation between youth and buying game money. Someone who buys game money rather than earns it has less of an idea of its worth, and the trait of impatience which corresponds to buying game money in the first place often translates to impatience at waiting for a good price on that item they've gotta have, instead paying the rather high prices I'd put items up for. Obviously, more rare items work better for this, since there's less price competition. Patience also helps.

Well, buying gold has nothing to do with your age or anything. When I returned to Everquest after a long time off, I bought platinum from a buyer for that account so that I would be able to equip myself and level up quickly. I figure for 25$ I saved myself at least 2 months of grinding which was well worth it. Some people might have 5-6 hours a day to devote to these games but I sure don't.

You're one person. I'm talking about general trends, I never said "everyone who buys game money is a kid". Regardless, even if there were no corellation, you'd be hard pressed to argue that people buying game money don't have a lesser idea of its worth than those earning it.

heh i know one guy with 5 or 6 pieces of giant stalker, our guild runs MC pretty regularly. He just happens to have/is willing to spend the most DKP anytime one of those items drops, i'm not sure how.
When i questioned him about well geared: I'm just wondering if he's talking about his class set, dm gear, etcetc. There is a lot of items that are good that arn't epic (in fact, my arcane gloves were better then my gloves of prophecy a green item > purple? wtfpwned.) but it's hard to believe a lvl 56 hunter is already fully geared Full beaststalker maybe? A decent gun maybe? I dunno

as to the money buying i see it two ways
1) someone (or someone knows someone, *cough* parent) doesn't have time to play since they make cash (or are lazy) in the real world and want an edge in game.
however - I think in the end it hurts the game in that IF enough people do it, the gold prices start to go up as more people spend more and more and as such the people who arn't supplimenting their ingame income with real life income start to lose out.

I do not think that it is killing the game, but i think should enough people start to do it and spend that gold with no care, we could see disaster for people like me who refuse to spend another dollar on the game (yes.. save the monthly fee ) and will suddenly find my gold less and less valuable.

i think it's funny that the everyquest unit of currency at one point was more stable and worth more than the turkish lyre i believe (based on internet exchange rates for the eq stuff).

This is a pastime. I've been addicted to MMORPGs and trust me this is nothing like it.

1) I was fortunate to have some epics drop and sold them for a nice price at AH. Other than that, I just grinded a little here and there, borrowed 300g for my epic mount.
2) lvl 60 gnome mage, with a few alts around 30. Enchanting/Tailoring, neither of which has been a money maker because I give out everything to my guildmates. Even farmed a Righteous Orb for one of them to put Crusader on their epic weapon.
3) PvP is alright, I've pvped basically twice and I was a Master Sergeant last week, but I might drop this week since I didn't pvp once. I run instances with my guild or guild alliance most of the time, been running a bunch of 5 man strat/scholo recently, quite fun, but takes a while. You can't brainlessly go through those places 5 man, keeps you on your toes.

Did MC for the first time recently, gave Onyxia a shot last night (got her to 38%), both of which were pretty fun. I got the Arcanist Boots off Lucifron

I've found the game has become more fun for me recently, not because of the addition of Honor, but because the guild that I run and the guild we are allied with are really starting to gel pretty well. We're not at the point where we can run MC/Onyxia by ourselves, but we are on our way. Looking forward to Battlegrounds, because I think it'll be a nice mix of PvE and PvP. As it stands PvP kind of bores me right now, but I have some guildies that love it. One rogue in my guild was #5-6 on the server.

I got to 28 with my Tauren Shaman on Frostwolf (PvP).

I've since not bothered reactivating my account, and have gone back to City of Heroes.

60 gnome mage
46 human rogue
21 human priest
only have about 400g right now, still a ways to go for the epic mount
for grinding money I do jadefire run
If you need your 40 mount money, rumbling exiles in arathi highlands (circle of inner binding) are good for cash, lots of vendor loot and solid stone/deeprock salt/elemental earth all sell well on the AH

Instead of playing hours at home after work, you troll these forums for hours during work. Not much of a difference, I think.

Many people have no trouble limiting their playtime to a few hours a week. Many others would rather play than do braindead things like watch TV or pay $5/drink at a bar or club. I'm sorry it was a problem for you, but for most it isn't.

Main:
45 Tauren Shaman
235 Enchanter
233 Miner

Alt:
24 Tauren Warrior
201 First Aid
204 Blacksmith
165 Miner

I mostly just quest with my alt, and I farm/grind with my main. At my current level, the best grinding is BY FAR the Wastewater Pirates in Tanaris. They give tons of mageweave and silk, a few green items here and there, and there are chests that randomly pop in certain areas. What I do is find the chest and then clear out the guys around it. Once I get that chest, I find the next one. There are always chests somewhere in the area.

The added benefit is that they drop Wastewater Bags that you can turn in (5 at a time) to a guy in Gadgetzan for 365 XP and a "gift box" that usually has food and drink (good stuff for a Shaman that doesn't want to spend 18s for 5 Moonberry Juice).

Ha Ha, the stereo typical "if you play an MMORPG you are instantly a dork with no life." Guess what bub, I have a very attractive wife that also apparently has "no life", I play Ice Hockey 2 nights a week in a league, am very active on the guitar for a good 20 years now, have 2 beautiful daughters.... and I think that my life is about as rich as one could ask with out being financially rich.

Thanks but I'm pretty sure my life rocks and the hours that I play WoW are a great break from that schedule. Kick back and crack open some beers and RELAX.

Don't bother, he didn't even read my reply to another poster which refutes his point two posts above the post where he made it.
