World series is now 2-3-2 in terms of home/away/home games?

I haven't watched baseball in decades but am interested this year because I live near DC.

Nats vs Astros world series:
1st 2 games at Astros, next 3 at Nats, last 2 at Astros

If the nats win the world series in 5 games (can't happen now), then they get more home games than the team with the better record.

Thought it used to be 2-2-1-1-1?
1st 2 games at team with more wins during regular season.
Next 2 at other teams stadium.
Etc

That way the team with the better record will never have less home games.

2-2-1-1-1 got ditched by MLB a long time ago. The season is already too long and the extra travel days needed pushed it back even more. Playing outside in the north in November is no fun. Hockey and basketball go 2-2-1-1-1 because they're indoors and they have more off days, so the travel days are what would be off days anyway.

Home field in baseball not nearly as big an advantage as it is in the other sports. If a top seed gets beat in 5 games it's because they deserved to lose, not because the other team had an extra home game. You should be able to win one on the road and get back home.

Additional fun fact: In World Series history there have been 39 previous winner-take-all game 7 showdowns. The home team is 19-20 in those games.

Baseball WS has always been 2-3-2.
There were a few years when the WS was best of 9.
The format was then 2-3-2-1-1.
First WS was 3-4-1-1 (best of 9)
When the Yankees and the NY Giants played. All games were played in the Polo Grounds.
The time where the white sox played the cubs, they alternated stadiums 1-1-1-1-1-1-1,
since they were in Chicago

It's never been 2-2-1-1-1, I far as I remember.

Never say never.

There were a whole shitload of 2-2-1-1-1 series, but most were in the distant past. You also neglected the 3-4 format of the 1943-45 WWII years which was done so that there was only a single travel day. And lost in there was the 1944 St Louis vs St Louis World Series where all six games were played in the same stadium.

Bryce harper must be crying right now.
but the $$$ from his $100M+ trade is probably easing his pain

Hardon? Doesn't he have some more China pandering to do?

Anyhow, disappointing game (really the whole series). I still congratulate Washington - I would take them beating Houston over douches like Yankees or BoSox.

I have to honestly ask though, has this ever happened where nothing but the away team won the games? I've never seen it this bad to the point where "Home field advantage" was a bad thing.

Congrats to the Nat's and their fans, I didn't care who was going to win until last night when Alex Bregman, (Astro 3rd base) hit a HR in the 1st inning and carried his bat all the way to 1st base and plopped it down near the coach, too cocky, too early, Nats pitcher Strasburg was glaring at him all the way around the bases. That dick move motivated Strasburg who was lights out after the 1st. Last year Bregman (when facing the Sox) loaded a vid of Sox pitcher Nathan Evoldi to instagram when he was a Ray and gave up back to back to back HR's to the Astros, that didn't work out to well either, with the series on the line and Bregman up with bases loaded Evoldi blew a 102MPH heater right past him. astros manager will be facing a lot of questions why Cole was not put in the game, specially since the Nats feasted on his bullpen the last 2 games.

He planned on putting in Cole to close the game for 2 innings when they were up. He pretty much announced that pre-game. So they needed 1-2 pitchers to bridge the gap to get them there. The real question will be pulling Greinke who was more or less cruising last night. But this is what I hate about sports - the arm chair quarterbacking had "what were they thinking?!!?" reactions AFTER the fact. If he pulls Greinke and they get to Cole and he closes out and they win everyone says it was a brilliant move. When it backfires it was the dumbest move.

That guy who bet 3.5 million on the Astros has got to be shitting himself right now.
Mattress Mack?
He was up to $12M

But it didn’t impact him, the WS bet was a fun hedge against his furniture stores’ promo of free furniture if the Astros won.

(Usually a store buys insurance to pay out on a promo like that. Instead, Mack bet the Astros win with the same $.)

I can't make it to the parade on Saturday because I have a wedding to go to

I went to a store this morning to get some gear and man that shit was already cleaned out. But they said they are getting stuff delivered like hourly today lol.

Caps, then Mystics, and now Nats ... in less than 2 years. Definitely not used to this as a DC sports fan.

I just learned to stop caring about sports in general. What helped was switching to fantasy.... No seriously, I spent more time looking at fantasy stats than I did watching actual football games (which was very little).

I also just really am turned off by the whole "Go local sports team and/or college!" Thought process from people. I mean if a team name that has your city in it wins a "championship" is what makes you get emotional, cry, or celebrate extatically then you seriously have some mental issues.

You didn't win anything. You didn't do anything. Someone else did something.

Sure thing buddy. You stopped caring yet you are in a thread about it, commenting on how disappointing not only 1 game was, but the whole series which is 7 games.

But nope, you don't care.

Yea, it's the nature of it, dammed if you do and dammed if you don't, also a lot of baseball can be just luck, several times the Astros had men on base and solid contact was made but they were all"atom" balls, right at a Nat's defender, a few feet either way it falls and 2 runs score.

Lol your hardon for sports teams is still showing a chubby.

Watching a disappointing series doesn't mean that I get emotional and cry when they lose or cheer up and down the street when they win. Christ bud, a team name that has your city name in it "won" a championship series.

Now go be a good little peasant consumer and buy a bunch of useless shit and prance up and down the street as if YOU did something and they are YOUR players.

nope. and even before the result last night. it was the first time in any American pro-sport league where the first 6 games of a championship series were won by the road team. ...basically NBA and Hockey included. NFL doesn't count.
