First, it's a minor thing but, it's not World War 2, it's World War II.

is this somehow footage that hasn't been played a million times? i initially passed on this because i guessed it would be WWII in Color digitally processed and upscaled. maybe i'm a purist, but i like the look of period-correct film.
What little I saw in the ads looked colorized and that is an immediate turn off for me, so no.
And how can 50 year old film be HD since that tech is a recent development.

Negative.
It is the second world war whether you abbreviate it WW2 or using Roman numerals e.g. WWII.
It's not about communicating which war we're talking about, it's about respect. The history of the time uses WWII. It's the difference between "Hey Dude!" and "Excuse me, Sir."
The whole purpose of historical shows like this is not to display pretty explosions, it's to convey the war within the thinking and culture of the times. Maybe you'll get it when your grandchildren reinterpret the cultural icons of today. 'Course, they won't listen either.
There is no such thing as a pixel to a ream of film. HD is all about how many pixels you can display, film has no such constraint.

Some great video in the program. The first one surprised me that they showed it unedited. It was very graphic. The piles of Japanese soldiers covered with flies and missing body parts while they were all interconnected as they fell was a really telling moment of how intense the fight was.
While it says WWII in HD it really is not. The film that was used at the time was very low quality early color film, over 60 years old, and probably not been kept in ideal conditions to preserve it. Also remember that a lot of this was shot during combat and the lighting was poor so you take what you can get. For the purists the film has not been colorized.
xSauronx said:i had resolved never to post in off topic because i hate the forums but this is so asinine and ridiculous that i just had to come in and say that this was asinine and ridiculous. as long as someone doesnt refer to it as "world war, too" then i think everything will be ok.

I watched it and was a bit disappointed. I felt it was a bit over the place with trying to go back and forth between the characters.
But I do enjoy the color film. It really gives you a sense of the era. Especially espisode one with the film with the Germans in a military parade and then Hitler driving through.
It was also interesting to see they talked about American soldiers shooting unarmed German POWs in Africa and the moral dilema the commander was put into.
