"Buy your very own anti-satellite laser turret!"

"Buy your very own anti-satellite laser turret!"
Rubycon has a hate-on for all things Wicked Laser.
Finally! A defense against the government mind probes.
It's not a 1W laser, even their specs reveal 500-1000mW output power. People have received them that have proper ways to determine power and average is around 650mW when cold and it falls down quickly from there.
Additionally some of that power is remnants from DPSS operation (808 and 1064nm radiation) that gets passed out the output aperture due to a lack of IR filtering. (dangerous!)
Like all (Wicked Lasers) products, this is underperforming, lacking proper safeguards for its power class (carrying fake ascension numbers to attempt to get through customs), and generally poor designs for asking price. If you really want something like this it's better to find a more reputable seller/builder.
Head over to www.laserpointerforums.com for more information on that.
Above all, do not support this scamming company. They are worse than OCZ and yes that is saying a lot.
Sorry to go OT here, but I always considered OCZ as a reputable company. Care to elaborate/provide a link?

As cool as these things can be, in an indoor lab environment with proper eye gear and nobody else around, the fact that any joe blow can go and buy one of these really scares me.
The thought of losing my eye sight to some asshole on the street is not very comforting. The odds of it happening are probably slim, but as these things get more popular, more criminals will probably start carrying them.
Anecdotal evidence is worse than useless.Their reputation? is well known amongst many online communities.
Anecdotal evidence is worse than useless.
That people post about having problems with OCZ products on internet forums is mostly because people don't tend to post when everything's working just fine. The same can be said about most any product/brand.
As for the topic, these things should absolutely be banned. There's zero reasons for regular people to own and use these extremely dangerous items.
Using it as a rescue device? Please... Lamest excuse I ever heard.

About the only thing that was actually vaguely satisfying was pointing it at objects and lighting them up from a distance. However, this needed a clear line-of-sight, and the illumination of the object was not bright enough to be particularly noticable if you weren't actively looking for it in that area.
This is not a laser pointer but a portable laser module. [sic]
The only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys. Now I never consider a laser - even a legally powered "portable" FDA certified one - a toy but that's basically what you have here. Just something for enthusiasts/hobbyists alike with money to burn to make a beam streak across the sky or burn things.
Lighting matches takes only a well collimated 50mW beam. About half that power at 404nm can do this because of the focal point size difference. Of course everyone wants bigger/brighter LOL.
A proper rescue device is an EPIRB.
I suppose a decent green with a line generator and way to spin it *may* help S&R folks find you but think about how one finds themselves in such a pickle in the first place and the fragile DPSS unit will probably be in a non-operative state!
Good self defence item. You don't need a gun when you can just burn out their eyes.
Does anyone make a multisensory self defense weapon? A combo light strobe, air horn, and bear mace would be pretty intimidating. Disorient them with sound and light, and punish them with mace :^D
