Huh? If he's as fast as he appears, he can get his second shot off before most of the recoil. That's the whole purpose of a double tap in rapid succession.

Heh, this isn't an auto, it's a revolver, the recoil hits as soon as the gunpowder explodes before the bullet even leaves the barrel.

The recoil occurs before the bullet leaves the barrel so it's kind of impossible to shoot again before the recoil.

Bob Munden was the reason I gave up on quick draw revolver shooting. Right after I got my Ruger blackhawk, I spent an ungodly number of hours practising quickdraw and aerial targets. Being 19 and full of myself, I thought I was pretty good. Then I saw a recording of Bob shooting 3 balloons so fast you could only hear 1 shot, as they all just blended together into one sound. I consoled myself, thinking he's just shooting blackpowder blanks, he could never actually hit anything with real bullets. Then I saw the video of him shooting quarters in midair. Then they showed a wheelbarrow full of various bent coins that he had shot in the air. I realized right then I would never be anywhere close the that good, might as well find another way to spend my time. I don't know how many rounds he's fired in practice, but it must be a freakin' lot.

So what are you saying, the guy who makes his living doing exhibition shooting faked a video? You gotta be kidding.

I hope not, but a snubnose at 200 yards and three in a row...

With days of practice to estimate the trajectory, out of 10 000 shots i suppose you could get three in a row out of sheer luck.

If the recoil effect started that soon, wouldn't that completely throw off the aim? The bullet has to leave the barrel before the recoil moves the barrel, or you wouldn't hit what you are aiming at right?

Wouldn't want to verse him in a Wild Wild West shootout.
I love how he shot the two balloons. He would make a good magician. 'Let me show your a disappearing act'...

The recoil begins as soon as the gunpowder detonates and the bullet begins to move, but the bullet exits the barrel before the recoil effect finishes. Meaning that the hand and gun haven't finished being kicked back by the time the bullet exits the barrel. Some of the effect occurs and that is why their is some inaccuracy due to recoil.

So I guess it would be possible to fire off a second shot before the kick of the first shot moves your hand too much. These are ridiculous speeds though, dunno what to think.

While I can see what you are saying, I still have to side with the story on this one. For 99% of people shooting a snubnose at anything at that distance, they'll be lucky to hit the target once. This guy isn't anyone, and he hold 18 records for shooting speed and accuracy. You can say he is as full of shit as you like, but it seems to me that someone is simply very, very, very good at what he does.

I think he is only hitting that torso, not any small bullseye at that distance.
I can see that happening. I had a S&W model 28 with the 4" and when I spent significant time at the range, I got some 6 shot groups that would fit under a beer cap. That was 50 feet so take that out to 600 and that would fit on that torso.

It's true that one on one duels that you see in most Westerns are created by Hollywood. I've read books by Old West historians and people that lived during the period that this just did not happen. As mentioned, most gunfights were ambushes, not duels at 20 paces at high noon.

Dueling was most prevalent in a time LONG before the wild west. It was more common in the days when London still ruled the world. Dueling kits were made and sold long before pistols had any sort of accuracy to speak of and manufacturers hadn't figured out about rifling the barrel.

Even when it was most prevalent, a duel was not something people did frequently or took lightly.

Yah - Classic duelling faded pretty quickly once rifled barrels made their way to handguns.

Risking your life for your honor was ballzy enough when the other guy had a pretty good chance of missing because he was (stuck) using a smoothbore which may or may not hit the side of a barn at 20 or 30 paces. Crossed the line into "Pretty Damned Stupid Thing To Do" once the handguns became accurate enough to poke the knots out of the boards on the side of that barn...
