The BBC is soooooo worried about offending people they don't want to suggest that he may be responsible for stuffing all that food down his throat and turning himself into a fat factory.

the idea that he could lose a whopping 400 pounds and still weigh 800 kinda blows my mind.

it's like he lost 1 of the fattest guys I know but still weight twice as much as him.

this guy will probably die of heart failure after he looses the weight. I remember watching oprah(dont ask why) a couple years ago and they had some dude that lost alot of weight on the show. The guy seemed all happy and what not on the show, but at the end, after the credits, there was a blurp of how the guy died of heart failure.

Just... how???

I was thinking the same thing.

Anyway I have to say good for him. It will be interesting to see if he can continue on this and be able to walk/have a "normal" life.

Hopefully he'll lose the weight slowly over the next couple of years. Dropping all that weight too fast would probably be devastating for his body.

Supersized by nature, he has now downsized through diet and willpower.

gee if you consider nature to be:

Breakfast
20 eggs, beans, 9 tortillas stuffed with cheese and meat, two bowls of taco salad.

Lunch
Half a Chicken, 4 meat and cheese tortillas, salad, fizzy drinks, pasta, bread.

Dinner
3-4 eggs with hamburger, beans, 3-4 cheese and meat tortillas, bread, or pasta, fizzy drinks, coffee, milk, 3 quarts ice cream./pineaple

which is what his diet was before attempting to lose weight.....what bullshit.

he got this way due to his own stupidity.

from a cached story here

Uribe said his weight problem spiraled out of control after he moved to the United States for a few years in 1988 and indulged in a nonstop diet of junk food and soft drinks.

A botched liposuction that damaged his lymph nodes left him with giant tumors on both legs weighing a total of 220 pounds. The tumors are the main reason he is unable to walk.

"It is all because of the junk food," he said.

so yeah, if you consider cramming your hole full of crap "nature" i guess they may have a point....

More devastating than being 1,200 pounds?

The guy clearly ate like absolute shit to pack on the pounds, but you have to concede that there still must be something intrinsically wrong with his metabolism on some level. There are piles of Americans who eat strictly junk food/fast food diets every day and while they are obese, they're not 1,200 lbs. I don't believe he just ate more than anyone else on the planet.

Bwahahaha! That's funny! The BBC's not beyond sensationalism. No one in the history of mankind ever got this fat or even close to it. This super-fatness is a disease of the modern times only, with our immobile lifestyles and super anti-nutritious food. Nature has nothing to do with it.

Where the f*** was his diet and willpower all this time when he was on his way to become the human walrus?

Edit - I should add that nature is the only thing that's gonna get him back to "nature", i.e. normalcy.

Well, I'm going to guess that exercise was a problem when you have 150 pound tumors on your legs. But hey, good job being a judgemental asshole.

Looks like I struck a nerve. He got to this point by OVEREATING. It's not rocket science genius! Read Wheezer's post. His tumours are a result of the botched liposuction which he wouldn't have needed had he not set out to create a Mexican food crisis.

You're not quite the mental giant either! Read this guy's history. Sorry, I really don't have a soft spot for overindulging fatties like this.

You could start by actually reading the article:
Whoozyer insert: jack ass

The diet, supervised by a team of scientists and nutritionists, consists of a strict formula of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.

It's about controlling hormone levels in the body, particularly insulin and glucagons.

Those behind the diet say that when these are at the correct levels through the right intake of food, anti inflammatory chemicals are released to keep the body's weight in check.

They say the body then uses its stored fat for energy, thereby causing weight loss.

"Life is good now because food is medicine," said Manuel. "If you have the right food your body gets what it needs. If I can lose weight, anyone can."

For an OBVIOUSLY out of whack metabolism like his, it's as much about what he eats as it is (also) quantity:

Manuel certainly doesn't starve himself to achieve his weight loss.

He eats roughly five times a day.

It's undoubtedly a vicious cycle with people like him. His body metabolism puts him WAY behind the eight ball from the git-go (there's your "Supersized by nature" part, chief), so, shunned and made fun of, he turned to food for solace and pigged out.

Manuel's weight problems are partly genetic, partly down to overeating.

His problem is similar to your reading comprehension problem. Is it JUST that you're lazy and undisciplined, or is there also a hidden genetic component to your demonstrated inability to absorb simple knowledge from a short news article?

Could be a bit of both, eh?

This isn't a scientific explaination by any means... But have you seen that show "Big Medicine" about the father/son team that does gastric bypass surgery? When they follow morbidly obese people and study what they eat... despite the protests from their patients that "I only eat what normal people eat" or "I have the fat gene" it ALWAYS turns out that they usually consume 10k+ calories a day.

Sure, a person can have a slow metabolism and gain weight... but 1200 pounds? No. That only happens when someone consumes thousands of extra calories a day. No matter how you try to spin it, a person's weight is simply calories consumed vs calories burned. In the end it's simple physics.

You can not dismiss this man's condition as being a slow metabolism. It may be a perfect storm of genetics and behavior... emphasis on the behavior. 90% on the behavior. But to dismiss this guy's condition as a metabolism problem... that's naive.

What I absorbed from that 'news' article was that he is some victim of nature. That some unfortunate natural condition made him like this. That's the way the BBC tried to frame this issue anyway. And that... is bullshit. He got that way by consuming thousands of extra calories a day. Pure and simple. If he had been taking in 2500 calories a day like any normal person he wouldn't be this big.

he has (had?) tumors on his legs that weighed more on their own than some adults weight. He was fat on his own but the tumors were CRAZY, I remember reading they weighed like 150+ pounds each. That would definitely be nature. I eat on average 5,000 calories a day, I don't exercise for shit and I never gain a pound. I know I'm not the normal here, but he's not the normal either, but on the opposite end of the spectrum from me.

I call bullshit on the 5000 calories and no weight gain with no exercise.

So, um if you are going to blame it on the tumors, why didn't he have them removed or treated?

I seriously doubt they blew up that big over night.

If he had the money to gorge on fast food, then had the money to attempt liposuction, then where was the money to treat the tumors?

oh wait, he probably ate that too.

those tumors did not create the voracious appetite the caused this person to grow to the size that he is. (20 eggs for breakfast? come on)

yeah I lie about eating a lot of food lol.

thread about food

the first post from me lists what I ate the day before, it's fairly typical. You can call shens whatever, I have no idea why I'd lie about what I eat.

If you're calling bullshit on me not exercising, again lol...

I went to a doctor years ago and he said I didn't, I just think my metabolism is 10x what it should be. If I could afford the training costs I would be a competitive eater. lol, not only can I eat way more than a typical person, I can eat basically an entire meal and eat again in 30 minutes. I know one day my metabolism finally kick in and I'll be this dudes size if I'm not careful
