lol, some things they work very hard to scale down, others they work hard to scale up

That ding-ding-ding Intel jingle is going to start to be associated with a Pavlovian response of people holding their hand out waiting for payment of some kind though

Now you see why intel has no problems saying.. "OK AMD we will pay you a billion dollars."

There entire finland branch hit there head too hard.

FAKE, but funny.

How about those warm up videos??? Streching equivalent to getting out of bed before being shot out of a cannon ... lol

http://www.intel.com/en_UK/CannonBells/behind-the-scenes.htm

At the time that I posted it, I didn't realize that it was fake. I actually was a bit disappointed when I heard it was all faked and they weren't real employees.

I guess I'm a bit naive and gullible, but I really thought that a bunch of goofy Finnish engineers dreamt this up. The engineers do come up with some fun ideas some times (there was a gigantic 3D virtual chess set you could move with your hands done with goggles and gloves one time on the 6th floor of RNB on Intel's SC campus).

Although now that I think about it... I haven't even heard of the Intel Finland office. April fools early I guess.

But, still, like Christmas, I was a lot happier back when I believed.

pm don't feel bad, I believed it up to the point they actually showed the people shoot out of the cannons and hitting their heads into the tubes. That's when I realized it was BS as no business would take on such a liability of having employees with neck compressions or worse.

Still though, funny video. It is what it is, viral marketing for our entertainment. We use to call it art before the age of the internet when things were done to portray something that defies the senses...now the best mankind has to offer up for an expression of their appreciation of the arts is "fake!". lol, social progress I guess

Hmm, I would like to know what is "fake" about it too. It sure looked like real people being shot out of cannons.

But are you saying that Intel doesn't have a Finland office? Why would Intel put that video on their pages and misrepresent themselves if it was fake?

The part where all of them have their parabolic trajectories cut short because they slammed head-first into a big-ass steel tube?

Why would Intel put that video on their pages and misrepresent themselves if it was fake?

huh? Are you telling me that you actually believe there are female Intel employees going ga-ga in the coffee room every time the co-inventor of the USB strolls in to get a cup of joe?

I'm blam-flammled. Do you think every commercial advertisement out there is real? (pssst, spoiler alert: nasty rumor going around that santa isn't real either you didn't hear it from me though)

Well, the cannons were aimed "properly". (Note that the cannon for the short tube was aimed higher than the other ones. In fact, each cannon seemed to be aimed properly, in order to hit the tubes, given the different length of the tubes.

Then again, they did have some hi-fi stuff near the computers. You think that they had them aim short of the tubes, and instead triggered the audio through the high-fi system?

:hmm: If my saracasm meter is broken just tell me, are you being sarcastic?

Not a single person was shot out of a cannon in the making of that "video", climbing into a tube yes, shot out at high velocity not likely (only because it is unnecessary, the effects are computer generated, no need to risk liability of a failed cannon shot), shot into the side of a steel tube absolutely not going to happen.

I feel like you are playing me...:\ You do watch movies don't you? Neo did not actually jump into the chest cavity of Agent Smith, that was special effects too.

I didn't think it was unreasonable until I saw them actually hit the chimes in which they all folded in exactly the same fashion. The velocity seemed low enough to mostly exclude any potential fatalities, of course excluding worry over liability for any injuries sustained in regards to any appearance of realism.

I am resoundingly disappointed, I'm sure they could have at least fired something that wasn't a person at the chimes.

You think those chimes physically existed? The cannons, sure they use them in circus events all the time so renting a few of them for props over a couple days of commercial shooting is feasible...but big steel tubes with exactly the acoustical resonance needed, plus scaffolding and safety precautions against wind or other reasons they'd collapse and kill bystanders? Why bother? Special effects are far cheaper and more controllable. Green screen ftw.

Yeah, broken vertebrae abound if that was ever really attempted. You don't get shot out of an air cannon at probably 80+MPH into a cylinder of metal with your head without death as a major side effect. LOL. Good video though!!

Their post apogee speed was probably closer to 40 mph but still that would hurt.

I meant as in actually do the entire thing. They could have set a world record for largest chime set played by cannon.

I started to have my doubts, not because the actors hit a solid metal chime at ~40mph and all of them were ok, but because I wanted to read the internal bio on the Intel network and couldn't find any of them.

a. none of the people named on the webpage have an Outlook email account at Intel, and none of them are in the phone directory.
b. if you click the disclaimer at the bottom of the page a new bit of text comes up that says: "All copy and videos are part of a marketing campaign for Intel® Sponsors of Tomorrow™. No Intel employees were harmed in the making of this film. All characters featured in the videos were played by actors specially trained in silly costumes and Finnish accents. Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to fire anyone out of a cannon."

despite what most people say here, this video does look quite authentic to me. but this disclaimer does spell it out. well it's a good fake, wonder how they made it look so real.
