and it fades out on 4:20. Not a coincidence. He's a doper.

gotta make sure he's up before 4:20 in the a.m. so he can start the day right.

Problem with that is it wakes neighbors up too!

The idea with the relay is perfect since it opens up a plethora of other ideas that WON'T wake your neighbors...

Take the 12V, wire an electromagnetic door buzzer in series with a high performance automotive ignition coil. Run the hot (wire that runs to the middle of the distributor) and the ground under your sheets. The door buzzer acts as a breaker/points as induction won't work with straight DC in. A good coil should kick 40-50kV with perhaps a few hundred micro amperes per pulse.

The disadvantages? Well your neighbors (again) could be disturbed by your screams and secondly you may want to wear depends in case you wet/crap yourself as it is a strong shock!

Other ideas included using a X10 module with an electric drill plugged in. The drill would have a few feet of surgical tubing locked in its chuck and placed with the trigger lock ON at full speed. The idea here is when the clock activates the X10 module, the drill comes on and the tubing gives you a good whipping! Since you're dealing with line voltage between the sheets this could be dangerous.

Water's a pretty effective waker as well and it does not take much engineering to use it in a similar manner.

seriously speaking, i've seen alot of alarm clocks that are meant to vibrate a pillow to wake you up in addition to the alarm itself.

if i had proper PC speakers, i'd use my computer as an alarm clock with something like orange clock. but, i have either an onkyo sound system, or headphones.

what i've taken to doing is leaving my phone on vibrate, sticking it on my desk. the vibrate action against the hard desk surface is loud enough to wake me up, and annoying enough to make me walk over to the phone to shut it off.

Relay actuates an electric motor on a hydraulic cylinder which slowly tilts the mattress vertical. No more comfy bed for you.

A 1/2hp motor with a large half moon key attached to the shaft (even a crank) with its frame firmly attached to the bed frame will vibrate you like a 8.5 earthquake.

Haha. That's sweet.

I am not a heavy sleeper. I wake up pretty easy. Getting me out of bed though... Yeah, that's a whole willpower thing.. I'll stay in bed for 30 minutes with that bouncing going on before I get out.

Haha, that's awesome. Some of the other ideas in here are epic as well. I like the idea of an earthquake bed or a stands-you-up bed as well.

Lol awesome. Though I find the shock of an alarm clock to be a piss off in the morning. I would want to hook that up to some kind of timed voltage increasing relay instead, and make it light up 10kw of flood lights over a period of say, 15 minutes + some noise making device that gets louder with voltage (maybe an electric motor that is unbalanced causing a vibration). That way waking up is less of a shock. The flood lights would maybe be useless though, that alone would not wake me up, but at least it would produce enough heat to make it easier to get out of bed.
