I'm sure this a R based on the date but I've never seen it before and thought it was...interesting.

William "Bud" Post III, 66, whose $16.2 million in lottery winnings brought him debt, despair and heartache, causing the kind of trouble often recounted in country-western songs, died of respiratory failure Jan. 15 at a Pittsburgh area hospital.

"Everybody dreams of winning money, but nobody realizes the nightmares that come out of the woodwork, or the problems," he said in 1993, five years after winning the Pennsylvania lottery.

His problems included a brother who tried to hire a contract murderer to kill him and his sixth wife; a landlady who forced him to give her one-third of the jackpot; and a conviction on an assault charge, after Mr. Post fired a shotgun at a man trying to collect a debt at his deteriorating dream house in northwestern Pennsylvania. He went bankrupt, came out of it with $1 million free and clear and spent most of that windfall, too.

If I win the lottery (which will never happen), I'm hiring an accountant so he can manage all my hookers and blow so it can actually last a while.

I'm not surprised..

I say that I wouldn't live much differently than I do now, but I guess you'll never know until it happens.

Lottery winners prove that lack of money isn't the problem of poor people - it's themselves.

Edit: Although I have to admit if I won a large lotto, I'd say 50% chance I blow most of it on investment losses.

That guy needs to join Lottery Winners Anonymous, though he might not be rich enough to qualify.

Anonymous trust FTW.

I think the rules say your name is listed as a trust/company/etc... can't claim it.

But if I was holding the check I would say if you have not spoke to me in 30days then don;t start now.

Anybody I would give money to I talk to at least once a month. Mom/Dad, some in-laws, booboo(grandmother), etc... Everybody else keep walking.

Ditto, thankfully I don't associate with people who'd try to shoot or scam me, but I would be wary of old "friends" coming back.

That's what happens when you give idiots money. They should just make a rule that if you can't pass a basic personal finance test, you have to take the payment plan.

If someone gave me $16M net of tax, I don't think I'd have to work for the rest of my life.
Shit I'm up 23% '08 and ~16% YTD with just contrarian equity plays... MVE optimized portfolio with some ~25% actively managed allocation (5% by meself) should yield good 10% annually... I'd be set for life.

Just in case anyone needs someone to manage their lottery winnings, I am throwing my hat into the ring.

A lot of people do take the payment plan, then sell it to a company for a lump sum payment.

Yea I think it was NC said you can talk to the press when you claim your prize or they will get your name since it is a Gov. open info type thing and then have them hound you.

Sorry WaTaGuMp, I play the lottery maybe 5 times a year and even then not on the really big one. Odds are just way to bad. I am up about $80 this year though.
