Anybody who says good music is no longer being produced: I invite you to listen to Nathaniel Rateliff, Clutch, The Lumineers, The Dear Hunter ... I could keep going.

I saw Nathaniel Rateliff and his band at Red Rocks in August and the place was packed, such a great show.

I was kind of disappointed in the first Nathaniel Rateliff album. There's a few songs that are fantastic and have a lot of energy, but then a lot of the other stuff fell flat... that's just me though. Still, to have that kind of sound in a "modern" band is great, and I'll be listening to their future stuff hoping for the more energetic songs.

I would also put Highly Suspect and Royal Blood up there with great modern groups. Both had very strong 1st albums.

I think the slower, lower energy stuff is great too. He puts a lot into his singing and it really makes the whole group shine. Lot of passion and his live show just reinforced that for me.

I'll have to check out those other two groups you mentioned.

Between Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and the Rolling Stones alone, there are already way more than 50 songs in the 70s that are easily better than whatever you want to put against them.

Maybe 5 from the stones, 5 from zep, and 15 from Floyd. Gives you 25 to allocate to the rest, which sounds about right to me.

The Wall alone has 26 tracks.
The Ramones, The Police, Talking Heads, David Bowie, AC/DC, Queen... I mean, I could be here all day, but your number is just plain wrong

I was thinking about this the other day and can't figure out the answer. I can't really think of anything in 20 years that has been truly transcendent, at least on the rock front. Nirvana is the last one I can think of. Who am I missing?

(Note: Before you overreact I'm not asking for a list of good bands...)

He does have a good voice, I just love the higher energy stuff so much that I wish there was more. I see now they actually have a 2nd album (or EP maybe?) that has some more tracks I like.

I've been listening to The Struts too, but they're a little different. The lead singer is like the reincarnation of Freddy Mercury, and they definitely have a classic rock and Queen like sound. Very fun music.

I say that Devil's contraption called the Harpsichord lobbed a real carbuncle into what decent men call tasteful music!
That's exactly how I feel about the harpsichord. Our local early music society hosts some great concerts but they have a thing for harpsichord that makes my skin crawl.

You might like Foxy Shazam.

As a 50 year old and music lover I would say the overall worse era was the 90s. Best overall era was 60s/70s. While my main teen years were in the 80s I have to say there was way more BAD 80s music than good.

This. The 80s had the Eurythmics, 10,000 Maniacs, Talking Heads, the first two Bangles releases, Midnight Oil, Nylons, U2, the Clash, and then some real crap.
