Worst concert you've ever attended?

Inspired by the Yes thread...

In my case, it was Rick Wakeman's solo act in the mid seventies. He played bits of The Six Wives of Henry VIII , Journey to the Centre of the Earth, and The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table but even a progressive rock lover such as I was could not stay until the end. It was horrible. Bad sound with echoes all over the place, no stage presence and really bad renditions of already mediocre songs full of self-indulging solos.

The Cars gave an amazingly bad show ... not to say it sounded bad, it actually sounded very good ... in fact it sounded exactly like the album Candy-O because half of what they were "playing" was pre-recorded straight from the studio.

Interestingly I also saw Rick Wakeman perform the musical version of War of the Worlds & I though it was amazing ... he played in Lincoln Center in NYC with the NY Symphany orchestra & the sound quality was fantastic ... it was more like classical music then rock though so many people wouldn't care for it.

The Mars Volta, opened for System of a Down

My god... it was like fingernails on a chalkboard for 30min. straight.
You couldn't hear any lyrics and you couldn't tell when one song ended and the next started.
Just weird whirling screeching sounds for 30min.

Then System of a Down opened up with Sugar, and we rocked out!

Haven't really been to a bad concert, but a bad performance by a band at a concert. Lollapalooza 1994 at the Shoreline Amphitheater when the Smashing Pumpkins headlined. The Beastie Boys came on right before them and completely rocked the place and got the crowd hyped. Then the Smashing Pumpkins came on and played every slow song they had and bored the crowd to death. Not only that, they weren't on their game at all. The crowd was so not into it that the band started getting pissed and the guitarist ended up flipping off the crowd when they didn't go ga-ga.

That same year Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds were one of the opening acts, and they SUCKED!

Guns 'n' Roses on their tour with Metallica ... Axl spent half the show just bitching and ripping on Izzy. Slash turned every guitar lick into a 2 minute solo and they took long breaks between songs.

The opener was some hippy-chick lead band. DMB was horrible. The wife and I left half-way through.

Back in the late 80s ... Young MC and Maestro Fresh Wes ... all sorts of wannabe dudes wearing Flava-Flav clocks around their necks and baggy pants I was dragged along by a group of friends at the time, and it was absolutely intolerable, even when I was 12.

Worst would have to be Tommy Shaw, formerly of Styx, opening for the Kinks back in the day. He was roundly booed throughout his performance, it was almost sad. Thank God the Kinks kicked ass, which coincidently, was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Dixie Chicks (Part of festival) sucked live ... Crazytown sucked (they were at an OzFest, didn't have a choice) ... Lots of choices, but those two have stood out the most - I actually fell asleep during Crazytown.

I have to agree with the post near the top about The Cars. They suck live. By far the worst show I've ever seen. And that includes when I had to take my daughters to see Mariah Carey and the Backstreet Boys.

When I was in college I was dragged by my girlfriend and some of her sorority sisters to a Boyz To Men concert to act as "security" for them.

It was so bad that the threesome afterward with my GF and one of her sisters still didn't make it worth sitting through the so called concert.

I fell asleep during an AC/DC concert, only due to not sleeping for the previous 3 days and the copius amount of substances I was abusing. They lifted two cannons out of the floor and fired @ 20 volleys into the crowd, not even enough to wake me lol.


Worst performance was Europa opening for Def Leopard. 45 minute set that started/ended with "The Final Countdown" and had no breaks between songs, they just ran them all together. It was horrible, considering the crowd reaction they were lucky to get off the stage alive.

#1 Cake (can't remember what year)

I have been to hundreds of shows over the years, and no band has come close to the garbage that is Cake in concert.

The only concert in my life that I have EVER left early.

#2 and #3 Bob Dylan

I was suprised, but it was absolutely horrid. First time was Columbia MD around 1991, the second was Tuscaloosa AL around 1993. Awful

The worst concert I have willingly gone to was Aerosmith during their Pump tour. Opening act was Dokken and they put on a fairly good show, mostly because I've always liked George Lynch as a guitarist, but Aerosmith sucked. Sounded terrible, didn't seem to give a damn and just generally slept walked through the show.

I had seen them previously on the Permanent Vacation tour and they kicked ass.....but the nigt of the Pump tour I saw them on was terrible.
