I'm seeing DMB this summer and I hope it is awesome. I'm not a HUGE fan, but I do like their music a lot...

Clapton. he had a cold and the venue sucks ass. Do not go to a concert in Air Canada Centre! It is not acoustically designed, it's a hockey rink/basketball court.
#1, his cold may of made his voice sound shitty, but nothing gets in the way of Clapton and his guitar -- not even heroin. And the guitar is enough to make it a show.
#2, if it's the venue that made him sound like shit, why are you blaming it on Clapton?

Guns 'n' Roses on their tour with Metallica ... Axl spent half the show just bitching and ripping on Izzy. Slash turned every guitar lick into a 2 minute solo and they took long breaks between songs.

Interestingly enough, that show at Texas Stadium was awesome. I liked Guns more than Metallica, but both were good.
And to wit, the opening act Faith No More was horrible terrible bad! The singer was deep-throating the microphone, and too drunk/stoned to really sing.
Now the only show I've ever left early was Great White. We started booing/hissing and giving them the thumbs down, and we left half way through their set.

After an utterly awesome performance by Muse, Yeah Yeah Yeah's came on stage and just fucked everything up. We left after the 3rd song.. couldn't handle the lead singer's screaming voice. They suck live.

The Mars Volta, opened for System of a Down
My god... it was like fingernails on a chalkboard for 30min. straight.
You couldn't hear any lyrics and you couldn't tell when one song ended and the next started.
Just weird whirling screeching sounds for 30min.
Then System of a Down opened up with Sugar, and we rocked out!
Mars Volta, for the regular person, is probably best experienced through studio albums. There are so many instruments in their band, and when mixed with horrible acoustics, I could easily imagine it just meshing together and sounding like audio garbage. Very few places have great acoustics in all actuality, due to them being multi purpose venues. I want to see them perform at a small concert hall, Detroit has a very good one.. it's small, but rock shows sound pretty good as long as the band doesn't suck.
But yea, there music is really good when mixed together right, but it's just so hectic. I want to see them live, just so I can confirm if they are indeed terrible live. I've had people tell me there are an amazing band to see live, and others have told me they sound like trash live.
also, not all of their albums I can take a liking too. De-Loused in the Comatorium is my favorite studio album of theirs, with Frances the Mute close behind. Amputechture was horrid imho, but it sounds like their new album dropping at the end of this month will be pretty damned good. We'll see if it can even hold a candle to De-Loused'.

Saw them when touring with saul williams (comatorium era)
3.5hr orgasm of backpain.
Everysong becomes 20min, they're just a jamband live. It was awesome b/c at the time I loved them, but all you can really do is stand while they played...and it went on forevvvver. Can't stand them now though, but we've had this discussion before.
I've seen 100's of shows, so it's difficult to
a.) remember them
b.) remember a bad one
However, one stands out. It was some random band from NY opening for rocket from the crypt...probably 5+yrs ago. The singer was anorexic/coke addict clad in tight leather...
They basically turned the volume knobs on everything ALL the way up and blasted everybody's eardrums with their distortion/noise. My ears were ringing for 3-4 days...rediculous.

Having seen them open up for RHCP, I can say attest to the worthlessness of their live show. They gotta tone that shit down. It's a tossup between worst opening act EVER for RHCP, mars volta or the flaming lips

at least they played with a lot more energy and songs ended.
an example (actually one of last concerts before they broke up and eventually split into sparta/mars volta)
