surprisingly, the best shows ive seen were at small 3500 seat outdoor amphitheaters. ozzy and the violent femmes. not the same show, two different ones at the same venue. the ozzy show was more energetic than most ive seen, and the sound was great. good stage show, and zak walked out into the crowd during his solo. put the security bozos into a tizzy, but it was a cool move. the violent femmes put on a great live show, lots of energy and their sound is like listening to the cd. only 3 guys in that band, and they definitely won for stage presence. they were fun to watch.

forgot to add howard jones to the crap list. his show was boring as hell, and he made us set up a grand piano as well as 14 different keyboards/ synths.

Evanescence.
LOVE the studio albums, but she has no control over her voice in a live setting. I've seen them three times in 7 years, and every time she was WAY off. (The first time I actually wanted to go, the second and third I went with friends hoping for a better experience.)
It made me want to bring headphones and a CD player and pretend she sounded like she does on their CDs.

My wife dragged me to a Dave Matthews Band concert 10 or so years ago. Since I was already not a big fan, I did not go in with the best attitude, so that probably had a lot to do with my general disdain.

You couldn't hear any lyrics and you couldn't tell when one song ended and the next started.
Just weird whirling screeching sounds for 30min.

Then System of a Down opened up with Sugar, and we rocked out!

DEFINITELY the worst band I've ever seen live. They opened for the Red Hot Chili Peppers on their past Stadium Arcadium tour. Everyone had their cell phones out and were playing games while saying "Get the fuck off the stage already!" Their lead singer would swing the mic around by its cord and the mic hit the stage multiple times, breaking it. He went through atleast 4 mics in an hour. :rolls;

It's kind of a toss-up for me. I was 5 when my folks took me to see the New Seekers, and they sucked. However, the first really bad one I went to of my own volition was the Snoop Dog part of the Lolapalooza I attended. I saw Tool, James, and Prodigy who were all great, but S. Dog blew choda. All he did was perform one song and then make the crowd yell his name for another forty minutes.

Cliffs:

1. New Seekers suck
2. Snoop Dog live sucks

I've seen Smashing Pumpkins twice live - way back in the day and the height of their popularity. They basically just stand on stage in 1 spot playing their parts with absolutely no energy or excitement. Very boring.

Lollapalooza 94 I think it was, as someone mentioned above. The Beastie Boys came on and put the most energetic performance I've ever seen, best live act I've ever witnessed. Wish I could relive that one. Then the Pumpkins came out later as the closing act and I left halfway through to beat the traffic it was so dull.

2nd for me was a White Stripes concert. I have no issue with their actual performance, but the venue they played at had the worst acoustics I've ever heard. It was basically just a big gymnasium, so the sound echoed all over the place. You couldn't hear crap, and even being a big White Stripes fan, it was hard to even recognize what song they were playing half the time. I'd like to see them again at a better location.

I'm going to make an admission that I swore I would take to the grave.

I saw New Kids on the Block in concert.

I had just begun dating the girl who would later be my wife. I was hoping that going would score me some major points (it did ) It was horrible. In hindsight, I think I would prefer getting repeatedly kicked in the Jimmy for two hours.

I concur re: smashing pumpkins, and I saw them 4 months ago.

The ONLY band where I'll let standing still and playing music pass = tool. And only then cuz they make it up to you in other ways.

Probably Warped Tour 2003 (I think it was '03, maybe '04) in general. By that time it was less punk bands and more of the emo/screamo/lameo crap. I don't remember one good concert from being there.

The worst concert I've attended is without question the Billy Joel / Elton John concert in Milwaukee many years back. Both of them sounded like crap.

I find this extremely difficult to believe, I've seen Joel at Nassau and it was a phenomenal show.

I saw Billy Joel in Jacksonville, FL I think before "The Stranger" was released at the Swisher Auditorium at JU and he put on a great show. I really was not all that familiar with him other than Piano Man but that concert made me a fan.

Same here! It was the Houston concert that I witnessed it. Mars Volta was horrid.

Does she still listen to, uh, "special" music?

She's in a Bon Jovi phase that has lasted for several years now. She used to drag me along to those concerts too, up to the point that I threatened murder by ax if I had to go to another one.

Handel's Messiah, if that counts. I was in the back, leaned against a wall sleeping in on of those metal folding chairs.

Oh, you know who else? Psychotica. They opened for Tool at the Roseland Ballroom around when Aenima came out... The lead singer was dressed in a giant condom. They were disgustingly awful... and made me appreciate Tool's live ability that much more.

linkin park. no stage presense whatsoever. they might as well have just pushed play on the CD deck and left.

thankfully metallica came on later and kicked ass (after limp bizkit, which put on a surprisingly good show. fred durst may be a jackass but he sure knows how to entertain a crowd)

Worst = Weezer...could have been their CD playing in the BG and there would be no differance...just stood there and played the music exactly like how it was recorded...

Second would be Death cab for cutie...(went for the gf)...again, very much like their cd, no stage pressence/excitment...and the fans were driving me crazy w/ their arm waving emo sing along

I saw dylan a couple years ago but was intoxicated enough that I cant really give an opinion one way or the other...I did have fun though =)
