I have seen a couple but here are a couple that are especially bad/funny.

1. Full body bicep curls - weight is too heavy so they heave with entire body.
2. Full body rows - weight is too heavy so they heave with entire body.
3. Half squats - weight is too heavy so they do a partial goodmorning/squat.
4. Barbell back squat jumps - they half squat, then jump, lol.
5. Static hold leg press - weight is too heavy so they lock their knees to hold the weight in the air for several seconds.

A guy at the last university gym I went to was severely guilty of #1. He was a super nice guy, but he just had a consistently bad habit of using way too much weight. He'd grab the 90 or 100# dumbbells and would, as mentioned above, swing his entire body to get the things. He'd then repeat this process for a good 3 or 4 reps.

He also did the equivalent of this on benchpress. I remember having to spot him one time--I had to basically deadlift the bar off of his chest after the first rep. He then wanted to do five more reps. No clue what he thought he was getting out of it.

I still don't get not lowering the bar all the way down to your chest while benching. I shouldn't laugh but I do. I have seen guys loading up 275 and lowering the bar half way. I know the concept though, but most of the guys have like zero chest devevlopment that do that.
When I was recovering from shoulder surgery (labrum tear), my physical therapist told me to not let the angle between my forearm and upper arm get smaller than 90 degrees. IOW, not let the benching bar get anywhere near my chest. Same with dumb bells. She didn't want me to do that even after rehab was over. So, I don't. The most I do is 90 degrees.

When I was scoped (they gave me a video with audio of the procedure) the doctor noted that my rotator cuff was in great shape. The PT wasn't entirely specific about the whys and wherefores of the prescribed exercises and reasons to do or not do things various ways, but I took her word for it. She came highly recommended.

Surprised Sixguns hasn't posted this yet. This is his story.
So Sixguns tells me… earlier an old, skinny man walked into the gym. I've never seen the guy in here before. The man goes over to the bench press and puts on two 45s plates, one on each side of the bar. The old man managed to lift the bar off the rack but it fell on his chest. The guy starts struggling to get it off but he can't lift it. So I ask Sixguns did you go help him? Sixguns says "no I just stood there and watched". The poor bastard finally leans the bar to the left and then to the right to get the plates to fall off the bar. The guy crawls out from underneath the bar and leaves. Never to be seen again. Till last week.

Sixguns can tell part 2.

To set this straight, I was doing a set of curls when the old guy tried to kill himself. Yes I laughed because this dude couldnt have weighed more than 115 lbs. I dont understand why you would try something you know you dont have the strength to do it.

the funniest thing I had seen in a gym was in my college days. an international student, a chubby, pretty nerdy type female, was "running" on a treadmill. She had some goofy shoes and pants she had no business exercising in. So she is "running" next to a wrestler from the school who is riding a bike. She is talking to him (she was a talker); mid sentence she goes down, but she grabs the front bar of the mill and catches her self. The belt is still going at a pretty good clip and she is on her knees running, trying to act like nothing happened. Even trying to continue talking to the guy on the bike. She continues like this for about 10-15 seconds until the guy on the bike is able to reach over and shut the treadmill down. By this time he is laughing so hard he has to leave the room.... and there she sits, glasses, who knows where, both knees of her pants completely gone and I beyond embarrassed. This was over 13 yrs ago and I remember it like it happened this morning

Sounds like a pretty entertaining mess to see.

When I just started lifting, I was benching all of 95 pounds and it fell on my chest. Some burly dude came and pulled it off of me. While embarrassing, I didn't leave the gym, but decided I should probably be doing these in the rack instead of on a "bench only" type of deal.

Sixguns can tell part 2.

So this old guy shows up again last week and I thought he was gonna do the same thing. But no, this time he gets in the seated bench press machine(?) not sure what its called, and puts the whole stack of 250lbs and begins his epic struggle with it. He sat there for a good minute turning purple while pushing with all of his might to once again be defeated my the gym. He gets up and looks like he might pass out, walks over to a chair and has a seat. Sits there for a few minutes before gathering his stuff and walking out of the gym again.
