No, not one bit which it's not her place to pay for any of it anyway.
no help at all, no food, spending money... no financial help at all through college even though she is "not poor by any stretch of the imagination" ?

does it matter? still seems like a crappy graduation gift
i had my reasons for asking.

and i find it odd that a parent wouldn't help out even a little bit when obviously they have the money.

I think it was great that I paid my own way with scholarships and student loans. I respected my education much more than my friends who had everything paid for by their parents. They switched majors 2, 3, 4+ times and ended up being in college for way longer than I was. Yes, you need to "find what you love and do it," but you can do that in the time before you start college or at least while you're finishing up Gen Ed classes. Paying for it yourself makes you take responsibility for your actions and your indecision.

$25 bucks. Now I am not entitled to anything but what ticks me off is...
1. My mom is not poor by any stretch of the imagination, hell she just bought my step-dad a $700 bow for hunting!
2. She regularly spends 50-100 a pop on my wife/aunt/step-brother's wife/her friends.

yeah, i guess when you put in context i can understand how you would be jealous - but then i got a big fat nothing for my graduation. hehehe, but i didn't mind - when i graduate from law school, I want to get my parents something rather than the other way round.

You're a bad son, you don't deserve $25, you deserve $0, she doesn't owe you anything. You're doing it wrong

I'm 30 and married with 3 kids.

I'm going back to college. My Mom offered to give me $10 for every 'A' just like she did in High School. I turned her down.

As a child, a gift provides a wondrous moment of happiness with no expectations except for the excitement of the unknown. As we get older, this excitement wears off as we realize that no matter what the unknown gift is, it is still known in some sense because we will have seen the particular item before. Our further experience with the world eventually eliminates that wondrous moment of happiness we knew as a child. This often leads to feelings of bitterness at the realization of our own loss of childlike innocence as each gift fails to excite us equal to our childhood memories.

Do not blame the one giving the gift, for your own failed expectations of that gift to return you to that wondrous moment of childhood happiness.

Sounds like his mom is messed up.

Messed up is right, she should have definitely worn a condom.....

I don't care if I get anything this May for graduation. My present is that my parents paid for all of it.

It's college, and you're done with it, time to move onto YOUR own life. Don't rely on your parents anymore, and don't expect anything from them.

I don't get the point of getting a gift for a graduation. When I got my diploma, I was so happy that I showed up with a bunch of flowers and just said " Mom, I made it ! "

Did your mom attend your graduation? If so, then you got more of a present than I did. I sent my Dad an announcement and called and left a message on his cell phone personally inviting him and all that (he's really hard to get a hold of, or I would have waited to speak to him personally). I had to hear through my siblings that he wasn't coming. He didn't call to congratulate me, send me a card, or anything. In fact, I haven't seen or spoken to him since then (May 2004). On top of that, I planned to see him the next time I visited my family about a year later (them in Michigan me in Missouri), and I found out that he had moved to Kentucky a couple months prior to that. My dad and I have never been that close, but all that just ticked me off. I don't know if I did something to make him hate me, or if he was just too lazy to congratulate me for graduation and tell me that he was moving. Whatever it was, I'm certainly not going to go out of my way to visit him or get back in touch.

I was also married at the time of graduation. My in-laws got me a $20 world map. At least my siblings got me some nice stuff, and my wife let me get a new TV.

In case you're wondering, my mom passed away when I was 15.
