Working in the dish room in the college cafeteria.

I committed to working there for a semester, so I worked there fore a semester. But I did not sign up to work there for a second semester.

I've had quite a few minimum wage jobs. I did catering and pizza delivery and neither one of those were too bad. There was at least some variety to the work and you got to socialize with people. Same with the apartment maintenance job I had. Every day was different and I got to hang out with some nice people.
The worst job was definitely janitorial work. And out of those, the worst one was working for the college when I first started working on my BSCS. It was a midnight to 8am shift and every day was the exact same sequence of sweeping and mopping hallways and classrooms and cleaning bathrooms. I lasted about a month before quitting and switching to the apartment maintenance job.

A job that was so bad you kept looking for something else while doing it?

And what was so bad about it?

I think mine would be when I was part of NOC. The job wasn't intellectually stimulating enough for me.

lol, I remember posting one of these kinds of threads I thought this one may have been mine that was updated. Anyway, once I worked at a camp with children, never will I do that again.

I really think it should be a requirement for everyone to work in retail for at least 6 months, preferably over a Christmas season. It would foster so much more politeness and goodwill between people

My worst job was a temp job at a fireworks processing place outside of Fresno, CA. It was 105 degrees outside, and I would unload semis full of 50-80 pound boxes of fireworks in a giant metal "barn". Regularly got to be 115 degrees in there.

Id prefer a job that isnt intelectually stimulating, as thats boring to me. Wouldnt mind mining coal, that sounds fun. Happy wander down the mine with my pick axe n sing mining songs etc.

Anyways i worked at a call centre. It was boring, confusing, dumb. If everyone knew WHY we had to do certain things for example change a number on a board after we complete a batch of coupons or w/e then there would be less mistakes. Also if they didnt force us to change passwords like every week then people wouldnt forget them. Just give us a limited windows account and be done with it! Gawd hated that place... We had to use this program that looked like DOS to put in the coupons, it crashed a lot, it was poorly written, not robust at all, total garbage. There was locks on EVERY door too, combination locks. It wasent a call centre, it was a high-security prison that takes calls :frown:

was making $40/hr and loving it. was very produtive and loved cowrkers + mgmt.

then company got bought out. no new projects came in for my dept during the transition period which lasted a year.

so after 3 months, ALL my projects were done. i was now an overpaid babysitter (ie: maintanence) and occasionaly helpdesk when tier II support didnt know the answer.

and i still had 2 to 4hrs per day with NOTHING to do.

nothing worse than trying to look busy to justify your pay.

Tutoring a 7th grade genius for $40/hour was probably the stupidest job I ever had.

I used to clean a abattoir (slaughterhouse) - if you cannot figure out why this job sucked then you are not using your imagination.

All of my jobs have been excellent, but my buddy in college wasnt so lucky.

He was on a crew that pumped septic tanks. his last day came when he was walking through a yard on top to the underground tank to get to the septic valve and the top of the tank was rotten. It broke and he fell up to his shoulders in septic tank goodness... He walked off the job right after that and took about a 5 hour shower with clorox.

So, would you rather be bitched out by someone you will never see again at Walmart, or be up to your shoulders in someone else's Shlit..? walmart ftw!

Apparently you haven't had very many jobs, because I can think of a whole lot of things that are worse than getting paid $40/hr to "look busy".

When I was 15 or 16, I got a job at Lonestar Steakhouse as a dishwasher for $7.50. My first shifts were on a Saturday and Sunday from 6am-2pm. I got there, I worked both days. I didnt get a lunch break, or even a chance to get something to drink or use the restroom. I quit that Monday. Then it took a good two months to get them to pay me.

For a week's worth of temporary employment when at uni, I was putting together junk mail on a conveyor belt. That means putting two pieces of paper on top of other pieces of paper all day. Only did it for 5 days, but was thinking of going postal towars the end of the first.

Hooray for education + better jobs!
