Renting wasn't the point. The point is "Try before you buy". be it a demo or whatever. i said the very least one could do is get a used console and rent it.
But kid or not...renting is a good way to play many games in a short time for cheap...you not agree? age is meaningless in gaming.

i just can't understand how anyone would spend $40-$60 or whatever and say it sucks when they could have just tried it beforehand...somewhere for gods sake.

Can't really do that for PCs. You can pirate and buy I suppose. I rely on reviews for this purpose. Sure it's not the same as playing it yourself but I've yet to be really let down by a really well reviewed game. I know the types of games I like and I rely on more than one review source.

For me it was MOO3. Complete lack of fun, or of anything that even remotely made sense.

Most recently, BF3 has been a disappointment due to all the aimbot / reveal hacks and the weak ban enforcement against hacks by EA. DICE screwed themselves by not going with Steamworks, IMO.

This is about PC games..not consoles. move on.

Yeah MOO3 might be my worst cuz it was hyped for years, I was expecting the second coming of Jesus, and got Judas instead.
If it had just been mediocre I would have forgotten it and maybe even gone back after a year.
But it was so incredibly bad I actually feel cheated and abused. Years later I remember it as possibly my worst gaming experience outside of some DOS freeware games that were just awful.

Some of use remember those days when cruddy little publishers experimented with all kinds of bad ideas and made some truly horrible games.

But MOO3 was many years in the making and supposed to be excellent.

Yup. And Civ5 was basically a repeat in so many ways. New inexperienced developer makings lots of talk about how revolutionary and improved and awesome their sequel would be compared to the award winning previous installments - ends up releasing an unfinished non-functional pile of turd that ruins the franchise.

Ah yes, almost forgot about this one.

From what I understand, the game wasn't even finished. They should pompously published something that was completely unfinished and untested for sale.

And like a complete idiot, I bought it.

It was finished. The game they shipped was the game they wanted everyone to have.
The issue was: For most of the development they had this system where you would get like 10 action points per round. Everything you did used up one or maybe two action points. You could not do everything you wanted every single round. The limitations made you stop and think about what was important to you. The whole idea was you could do anything, but not everything.
Because some folks didnt like it, they chose to remove that feature entirely right at the end of development. BUT, they didnt rework the game to playable after a major change, so what we got was a very unpleasant mess.

There were also a buttload of features they promised early on which were removed towards the end, and they didnt tell customers. One in particular I recall was the ability to colonize moons separately from planets, and there was a whole system in place to manage them. They nixed that idea and in the end, having moons just meant more habitable living space for your citizens, regardless of what type it was or what size it was relative to its planet.
It wasnt laziness. It wasnt rushed production. They just decided to change key features at the end cuz they didnt like them. And again, did not reconfigure the game to make it playable after a major change.
End result? Crummy game play.

I actually really liked pong. I used to play Commander Keen (which I hated) just to play the Pong minigame in it.

I have to admit that I didn't pay a thousand dollars to purchase the original Ping settop game, so I could see that smarting if you did that.

Baldurs Gate 2. I know people loved it but I hated every second of it and it was hyped like crazy to me. Second to that would probably be WOW. I regret every second I played it.

I've never actually purchased pong, I just couldn't think of a game that was such a terrible purchase besides perhaps all the indie games I bought on steam that I never play.

I got this game for $60 and played it until I mastered it. The over all idea of the game was good but the icon driven game play and lame space battles made me think how much better the game could have been. It was like 1997 when it came out, so maybe this was to much to ask at the time. Empire at War was kind of close to Rebellion but not the same to me. Long live Free Space 2.

I though BG2 was okay. I guess it was good for the time, but I wasn't super crazy about it. I also hated WoW, I finally broke down and got a free trial for it, and it's just not for me. Part of it is the graphics, which I'm sure looked much better in the context of whatever year it came out, but on my 2500k/6950 build it looked like garbage. I also hate MMOs, but that's just me. I can totally understand why some (many) would love it, and have no problem with that. I just wish they'd go ahead and move to a truly new engine already. They *SHOULD* just give it away to the existing subscribers, considering many of them have spent insanely huge amounts of money in fees. Fold in the old WoW world with more new lands, on an all new engine.

Pong for some reason broke my grandmother's TV set in the early 1980s(I'd say 82) after 3 days of use. I didn't get to play another Video game until Christmas 1986 when my parents bought me and my brother a Sega Master System(I have a lot of love for that system with one complaint, it was hard to get games for after 1989, Phantasy Star and the Z80 CPU FTW).

I'm trying to think of some really bad PC games I've played. I guess I would have to go back to the days when I had an IBM aptiva 150Mhz Pentium(which I eventually upgraded to a K6-2 400 which while faster then the P150 wasn't too great either, BTW no L2 cache FTL). Silent Steel Sucked, Slave Zero Sucked, I thought Descent was overrated...I didn't really play too many PC games back then to tell you the truth, it was an expensive propostion and I didn't have a 3D Card until around late 1999 when I bought a Voodoo Banshee on Clearance(which wasn't too great of card), I was really more of a console gamer up until around early 2001 when I got a P3 650(which easily did 866). The video game/PC game world landscape was way different back then. Compare a system like the Dreamcast to a gaming system back then and you won't see too much difference.

Then things started to change with the PS2(which I didn't think was as good as the dreamcast due to only 4MB of video memory)

Wonder what WoW II will look like. You have to imagine they are working on it with the insane amount of money it's made them.
