Keep in mind this isn't a discussion about what what worst games are, it's the worst game you've purchased. I personally am very selective with my purchases. I don't just buy mediocre/crap games because they're on sale, I only buy them if I'm pretty damn sure I'm going to enjoy it.

So you are saying you NEVER made a bad purchase? Must be nice. Personally I was pretty sure that DA2 was going to be awesome. It had Bioware behind it and the DA:O history. it "Should" have been good. Fact is, not everything that "Should" be good, IS.

And then there is the whole thing where your tastes might not be what others are. When Halo came out everyone thought it was the greatest thing going. I played it once and never touched it again. I am glad I only spent a few bucks on it because I thought it was bad.... Despite the massive rave reviews.

Look, to the other posters point, if you have NEVER bought a bad game then either you are (a) kidding yourself, or (b) don't buy enough games to have encountered the phenomenon or (c) are so absolutely lenient on quality that you really aren't adding anything to any discussion about "Bad games". Take your pick.

Homeworld

I couldn't gel with that game. The worst part? My dad bought that for me for Christmas back in the 90's when it was released. It's supposedly was THE space strategy game at the time, but man the learning curve was immense.

You're a bad person.

Mass Effect 2 is the most disappointing game I've ever purchased. I was so excited after playing the first one (and loving every freaking minute of it) and with many people saying the sequel was better, that I bought the game and all DLC, hoping to start and get as engrossed in it as I was the first one. To this day I've made it about 3 or so hours in and have no desire to start it up again.

Sure it was dumbed down, but I still had a shit load of fun on it...

C&C Tiberium Sun. I literally broke the damn disc in half.
There were still bad games I purchased, but Tiberium Sun just stood out.

Sigh, had such high hopes because I had so much fun playing Red Alert....

With respect to DA2, it has superb graphics and, despite not standing up to DA:O, I enjoyed it to a degree. Yes, I was disappointed at the changes and departure from DA:O, but as a stand-alone game, it was pretty good.

The same could not be said with MoO3 and Star Control III. I never enjoyed them and they similarly failed to succeed their otherwise phenomenal predecessors.

I have made a bad purchase. I already answered earlier in the thread that DA2 was the worst game I've ever bought. After that it would have to be Trespasser. But as bad as that game was, I actually have a lot of good memories and laughs from playing it. Can't say I enjoyed anything about DA2.

I've never owned a console so I've never bought any console games.

Hmmm... for me it was probably the original Horizons: Empire of Istaria. Great concept but badly executed and flawed in many ways. One of the best player communities though. Everyone tried so hard to help one another because of the game's problems. To be fair some of the original crew came back and bought the game to try and save it and they have done a remarkable job considering the enormity of it. The game engine is old and antiquated however. The player base is small but still very helpful to others. A shame they can't make a new game. Just too costly though I guess. Where else can you play as a dragon in a MMO environment?

I see it as equal parts people trolling, having selective memory loss, wanting to be 'Cool' or funny and just having drasticaly different tastes (or having had unusual and bad experiences with a given game) than the rest of us.

I'm pretty sure most of it is just trolling.

I mean, seriously guys?

Team Fortress 2

The Witcher

Mirror's Edge

Sins of Solar Empire

Fuck this thread, I'm outta here.

Technically it came free with my video card, but I'd have to say "Stormrise". Retarded pathfinding, retarded interface, buggy units that when told to move in a straight line would dance and jerk for several seconds before moving, and God forbid you order them to attack someone. Even troops with the longest range weapons will charge right into point blank.

Latest game for me, Bunch of Heroes. Got in on a 4 pack when it was on sale ($1.87) and I still felt ripped off.

But Supreme Commander 2 still takes the cake like I said earlier in the thread

Lol. That title alone makes me think that by that stage in the game's development, the team was so demoralized that they didn't even bother to think of a creative name.

Guy #1: "Well, we finished this POS game, underfunded, overworked and past deadline. So... what do you want to call it?"

Guy #2: "Meh... I really don't give a s***. Just call it... eh, Bunch of... Bunch of Heroes, I guess."

Call of Duty 2 & Modern Warfare. After some years passed after CoD2, I thought perhaps the formula changed for the better.. Sadly, still a mindless game with no tactile or strategical thought needed.

Oh and Team Fortress & Crysis 2. Same rational as the ladder half of the previous statement ^

Worst game I've tried recently was Star Wars: Force Unleashed. Made it about an hour then uninstalled.

The one thing that all of those games have in common is that they are very stylized. If you don't like the style, the gameplay and graphics won't matter much. Personally I loved The Witcher, but if you didn't like the combat system, forget it, you were going to hate the game to the nth degree. On the other hand, I loathed STALKER as boring and tedious, where other people love it. The campiness of TF2 makes me laugh out loud when I play it, but a MW3 player or a die-hard TF:C player would not care for it at all. The same can be said for any of the games on that list. They are all very easy to hate if you don't buy into their peculiar caveat.

Interestingly, one of my very least favorite purchase was Homeworld, a game that is almost universally adored. For me it was far too short and far too easy. It was the first game I beat in a day and when it ended I was shocked and disappointed. I loved the gameplay but I wanted more missions and more plot. I honestly felt ripped off.

Later on in life I would pay for Star Trek: Online and know what being ripped off was really all about. Homeworld could only be a very distant second after that.

Disagree. Tastes are certainly one thing. And tastes might determine whether you like CoD more than TF2. However, tastes will not dictate the worst game you've ever purchased unless, throughout your entire gaming history, you only purchased games rated 90% or better. And by purchased, I mean in any fashion (I assume stealing them as well).

It doesn't matter if you like CoD more than TF2, because if either of those games is your worst game, hell not even game, worst FPS (specific genre), then you haven't played about 95% of that genre (and about 99.7% of all games).

This is what makes a lot of the poorly thought out responses in this thread so damned ridiculous.
