I am currently running a duron 600 on a MSI K7t Pro (KT133 (not 133a)). Want to hold on to it for another year. Thought I would throw in a 1 g Duron or Tbird. Will I see enough diff to justify the $50-70 cost?? Any thoughts?
I could just stay where I am, but I do fiddle around with video recording and playback and thought a little extra power would not hurt.

Also - I know if I get a Tbird I need the 200 fsb, with the Duron is there more than one type or model (morgan core, etc)?

No need to buy anything! Bust out that mechnical pencil and do those L1 bridges in... duron 600's oc very well! I have a Duron 700 that does 933 with a slight voltage increase on the same motherboard as yours! Just make sure that you have good cooling. I've got the taisal heatsink (not sure what model) and stock fan running at 7v (12v too loud!). Cools well enough. 44c under full load. later.

Thanks Sleepy

I understand the OC thing, but lets say as an alternative, do you think it would be worth the $$$ to go for the Tbird or 1g Duron assuming that I might OC them. And I wonder if my MB can handle the newext Durons?? Thanks

Hi SleepyGuy, I'm Pako, how are you?

How did you overclock a Duron 700 on a MSI K7T PRO (KT133, with no multiplier settings what so ever)
I have the same configuration and was wondering how you got an extra 233Mhz out of that Duron of yours?

Thanks for your reply

took me a while to hunt it down.....

go here :http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/00q3/000711/amd-03.html

these pages show you what the proper bridges are for the voltage and multipliers without a need for a special mb. you may have to cut some bridges (a razor blade works) and use a conductive pen to close the ones you need. this is really hard to guess what is going to work on your board, but if you got the time.....

dew.

getting back to the original subject, yes icjogger, i'd say that $50 for doubling your computer's speed is well worth it, i'm even thinking of doing the same to one of my computers

good luck

1. $50-70 seems on to me for an upgrade.
2. Try get an Athlon. Better performance than the Duron due to the larger L2 cache.
3. Update to latest bios. U can run 266 FSB CPU @ 200 FSB using this mobo. If u Athlon is unlock, u can just go to the bios & up the multiplier.

Eg. 1.2 Ghz Athlon running 9.0 X 133 FSB, u can run it in ur mobo at 12.0 X 100 FSB.

First off the pro and pro 2a are different mbs.

The cost of the 1 gig minus the sale of the old 600 (worth about 30 maybe) would give you a cheap upgrade. You'd have to update the msi bios and it should make a difference. Do you have a decent hs/fan?

I think its probably worth it or you could go with a used athlon as well with the bigger cache.

Thanks all!! - I bought the retail duron 600 and use the hs & fan that came with it, runs very cool. My MB is the 6330 k7t pro (KT133), not pro2(KT133a). Not sure I can run at 266. Can I run the latest Duron (with the morgan core)? But your right I think the Tbird is the best bet, but I think I have to go with the 200 fsb. You've all been a big help!

ps - I probably won't be doing any OC'ing
