Is this upgrade worth it or should I just wait until I really start bogging down? I'd like to stay under $150 but get a decent performance increase. Any other options that would be a much better choice?

Thanks for the input.

you're better off upgrading to the 4850 for around $150. its a better card than the 8800gt

Third that one

Plus you won't have to deal with the crap that happens if you don't clean ALL of the ATI drivers out for Nvidia's and vice versa.

4850 has been as cheap as $135 AR. There are 8800 GT's 256mb for $90. Thats pretty good price/perf. 8800 GT $90 AR with COD4 Awesome deal if you want COD4. Very good deal anyways.

Just note, the 8800GT is going to start feeling feeling underpowered in most modern games. Depends on resolutions you play at and AA. The 8800GT shuold be a substantial upgrade from your 1950XT.

Yeah, i want to make sureit is a 'substantial' upgrade. I was thinking if I could get that for $150 or less, i would go for it.

Anyone know if there are any good passive coolers for these? I have an accelero on my 1950XT and love it!!

well if you have a $150 budget I would really get a 4850. (technically the rebate might put you $20 over until it arrives). The 4850 is MUCH better with much more lasting power then the 8800GT 256mb. Also, depending on the accelero, it might fit on to the 4850 from what I have been reading (I don't know for certain, you'd have to check around here). Oh and I doubt you could get away with passive cooling on a 4850.

You've waited this long.

Wait till the 4870 drops down to 240 or so and jump on that deal.

Looks like you keep your cards for a long time.

He didn't ask about the 4850. But, he did ask about the 8800GT. I have 2 Asus 8800GTs and the performance gain over my previous 2 7950GTs (which are just a little slower than 2 X1950XTs) is quite remarkable. Go for it!
