hmm I just found a voodoo 2 in the closet, I think that'll be all the performance I need.

But seriously, what a blast from the past, I opened up a geforce2 MX box and for some reason I had put the voodoo in there.

For $205 ($230 before rebates) he can get a true upgrade for his rig, as opposed to your suggestion of $195 ($215 before rebate) for a move that gains only a few frames per second.

While OrooOroo goes a little too far (it is possible to game on the AMD's 780g and NVidia's 9300), you aren't gonna be able to play titles coming out in the next year. There is absolutely no reason to build a gaming rig with integrated graphics. Especially when the proposed difference is one of a mere $10/$15.

Your 'solutions' are not AM3 qualified so you are effectively moving the OP into a dead end.

His desire was to spend 'around 200 - 250 bucks'. With my solution he would own a cpu which can go toe-to-toe with the e5200/e7200 (yes, I know it won't OC as high), have RAMs @ 1066MHz and 'theoretically' be within $35 of an HD 4830 (which when OC'ed would roughly be twice as fast as an HD 3850).

Did I mention that the Gigabyte motherboard already supports the Phenom II X4 940 at 3GHz ?

Dead end? Intel won't quit making socket 775 for at least another year or two unlike AMD who dropped socket 939 like old garbage and left a lot of people hanging. In a year if the OP even needed to he could upgrade to a really fast C2Q for <$200.

My solution at $250 includes the 4830 and will be faster at everything as your $195 solution even without overclocking.

My upgrade path won't even need a faster CPU for at least a year even without overclocking.
