Worth upgrading 9800 Pro?

Hi. I'm considering getting a 128MB GeForce FX6800nu (either a BFG 6800 OC w/ farcry for $250 or the PNY black friday one at compusa, $230 - $30 MIR). So after selling my 9800 Pro it will end up not costing too much. Question is, is it a worthwhile upgrade? I've been playing mostly UT2K4 and I'll be buying HL2 today, so I'll probably be playing CS:S as well. Specs below. TIA.

a nice upgrade for 9800pro is the 6600GT if you dont want ot spend over $200. The agp versino was just released not too long ago. I think if you sel your 9800pro you will be albe to only pay like 100 at most for the 6600GT. There is a review on anandtech on teh 660GT

6800 sucks btw not worth the money. 6600gt out performs and is cheaper

if you are selling your card and then paying close to $100 to get the new card, the 6800 is not a bad choice. The 6600 GT is my favourite card in the whole universe but if you already have a 9800 pro, it's probably not the best investment to go for the 6600 gt. it's like paying 100 bucks to get 12 more frames in hl2 or -2 frames in UT2k4.

not really true, just the fact it's cheaper makes it a more viable option for some. the 6800vanilla still performs well...

Thanks guys. All the reviews I looked at were all for not anyways. I called my local Frys (which I should have done before I started) and the price of the BFG was $299 and they wouldn't even match their own website price, haha. I think what I'll end up doing is waiting for the 6600GT AGPs (looks like the performance is exactly the same as the 6800nu) to be more readily available and pick up one of those and give my 9800 Pro to my brother really cheap for an early Christmas present (poor guy's gaming on a GF4 MX)

The only upgrade i would consider from a 9800pro is to an x800pro or 6800GT.

You still won't be able to play all the games with all the eye candy on. Just my opinion tho.

Unless you want to play Far Cry or Doom 3 with ALL eye-candy on, you DON'T need to upgrade, plain and simple.

Yeah I would say that from 9800pro to 6600gt or 6800nu is not worth the money. I would have to agree with Cawchy87 there. If you want extra performance try OCing to xt speeds, I bet you can.

Well, I'd also like my brother to be able to enjoy CS:S and like I said he's on a GF4 MX. So is there a better option than the scenario I posted a few posts up? Is there anything coming out soon (like spring) that would bring down the 6800GT/Ultra prices? Do I just let my brother worry about himself?

sell the card for 150.

buy a 9500 pro for your bro for 80-100.

Buy an x800 pro the cheapest you can find it. Or if one isn't available for that cheap, get a 6800GT (watch ebay)

imo the differance between the 6800GT is worth about 40-50 dollars. So if you can find one for like 300-330 i would jump on it.

Watch the fs/ft fourms for the 6800GT's or x800pro's.
