OK all im contemplating upgrading from my ATI 9500 pro that overclockes to 350/350 to
this 6600gt card.

Im not going to upgrade to a pci-e board im happy with my hardware which is as follows.
Semperon 3100+ @ 2.249 , ecs nforce3-a mobo , 1 gig of ocz platinum ram running at 1T ,
2x 160 gig seagate hds 7200 rpms 8mb cache, TT 420 watt ps.

Im a bit of a casual gamer i dont play heavily and it doesnt hurt my feelings to run at medium settings at 1280X1024.

So the question is ... is it worth the upgrade . Is the diffrence going to be noticeable.

and please NO flames of ati or nvidia plz i dont care either way .

Appreciate your input. Thanks in advance .

6600GT is a good choice, no problem w/ that. You'll see a very nice boost of perforamnce increase between the two

i understand that a 6800gs is very nice but im not willing to spend the 300 to do it
im a bit of a casual gamer. the 119$ tag on the 6600gt is more my speed .

Im just wondering if i will see a bit leap in frames or settings that i can crank up a bit.

Yeah 6800GS ~ 200 and 7800GS ~ 300. But if you're using the 6600GT to play old games that you used 9500pro to play, it'll be a pretty good upgrade and you'll see the FPS increase by a lot.

get a 6800nu. You get the 256bit memory interface which gives the biggest boost and its not that much more expensive then 6600gt.

I think it would def be a good upgrade. My 6600gt served me well and is well worth the money. I played FC, D3, BF2, HL2, all with no problems and looked great.
If your budget allows it then I would do it, if you could put up a little more money to get more pipes or memory then that will help to, but the 6600gt will not fail you.

The 6600GT is a good card, but it's not that much of an upgrade (I'd estimate ~50-60% faster on average, depending on the game and setting). I went from a 9500pro to a 9800pro (slightly slower than a 6600GT) and was disappointed with the upgrade.

The 6800GS is only about ~$40 more around here, so it really is a pretty good choice. If you can't swing it right now, I'd wait a little longer rather than go for the 6600GT. Just my $0.02 worth.

whats the diffrence between a 6800gs and a 6800NU ?

first of all, the 6800GS is ~$200

there isn't "that much" from a 9700p to a 6600GT . . . the extra $80 fot the GS will just about double performance .

the 6800NU would be good - IF you can unlock it - look in Hot Deals [here was a great deal not long ago]

FEAR and CoD2 can be pretty heavy, a 6600gt/6800NU would be fine in 8x6 or 10x7 low/medium. Unfortunately selection and deals for AGP cards are lacking, the 6800NU is the best card in your price range, but finding a deal on one will be tough.
