The title says it all, I have an EVGA 8800GTS 320mb card and 4gig pc5300 memory (the max) in my system. My wife and I agreed to spend some tax rebate on fun things so I got $300 to upgrade my computer (if I want to). I am wondering if it is worth upgrading the graphics card or anything on this machine at all. The Windows Experience scores are:
Processor: 5.1
RAM: 5.1
Graphics: 6.7
Gaming Graphics: 6.7
HDD : 5.7

I don't think I can go much further on the CPU (maybe 2.4ghz) and I could put in an SSD but I haven't seen anything to say that is worth the effort really. What do you guys think? I know $300 isn't much and I already play my primary game (SC2) just fine. I do love FPSs but my reaction time isn't what it use to be. I'm reasonable so I'm not expecting to play Crysis 2 or anything. Thanks in advance.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I wouldn't spend any money upgrading anything in that rig. I'd save toward buying a whole new system.

Yes, honestly that isnt really worth it, saving up for a new rig would be better.

Save it and put it towards a Phenom II X4 965, 8GB DDR3, good motherboard, and a 6970

What you do is you overclock your C2D -> 3ghz.
And you buy something like 5770 (should be like +50% improved performance in fps (or more) vs your 8800 GS)

OR

you save up and buy a new system (new cpu/motherboard/ram/(cpu cooler) + new gpu + new psu).

I think your C2D @ 3ghz oc, would be good enough to drive a 5770.
That would certainly help you play alot more games for little cost (99$ on newegg atm for a 5770).

I don't think I can go much further on the CPU (maybe 2.4ghz)
Nonsense these C2D E4400 usually do ~3ghz depending on luck, how much you push voltage up. You should be able to go much higher than just 2.4ghz on it.

You need to set Vcore to 1.6volt, push FSB upto like 325mhz
(3.25ghz with 10 multiplier x325mhz fsb)

Your not going to get all the frames per second that 8800 GTS can give with your CPU bottleneck.

regardless of SSD your bottlenecked.

Just save up for a new rig. Like they said...
