Worth waiting for Kaveri?

Good day

I am looking for a CPU for my new PC. Till now I had my eye on either the, Intel i5 4670K or 3570K. The 3570K seems to have a little better gaming performance, is 20Euros cheaper, but the 1155 motherboards seem to be again 20Euros more expensive.
The LGA 1155 and 1150 are probably both going to a dead end.
Is it worth waiting for the new Kaveri CPUs? Will the Kaveri APU, that comes early January, keep up with the 4670K?
The FM2+ has probably a future.
I am biulding a new PC, so I would not grade up my PC in the near futere; so the socket is probably not worth to worry about.

Wanted to buy a GTX780 from inno3d. So I would not use the integrated GPU.
I actually wanted to buy the PC now, so the 4670K will probably be the best choice.

That would be a good combo for gaming (plus some overclocking room if you need it).

The 4670K will be faster than Kaveri for CPU performance. AMD are predicting a 20% improvement in CPU, which will still leave it slower than the i5 (though it should be faster than the i3).

Kaveri will be a nice boost over current AMD processors, but it still won't beat any of Intel's current chips. Best to go with the i5-4670k.

Can one consider to buy the i7 4820K? But the LGA 2011 is probably also a dead end, in terms of future use of newer CPUs. The LGA 2011 that is currently available, is going to be replaced by a newer version (LGA 2011-03), am I right?

LGA2011 doesnt make much sense unless you go 6 cores or really need the extra PCIe lanes. 4820K is also Ivy based. 4670K is Haswell based.

And yes to the socket. Haswell-E uses DDR4 and got FIVR.

All current platforms are dead-ends, but Shintai is right. Basically, if you have to ask of you need the 4820K, you don't need the 4820K.

There was something about more info coming in December, but I don't know if it was a rumor or not. It wasn't the NDA expiry.

Info coming in Dec. is just rumors. AMD won't officially release any new info until CES 2014, which is a few days before the Kaveri launch.

Jan. 14th = Kaveri launch, i.e. OEM's and ISV's stocking systems with them and selling them.
Feb. 2014 = Retail/e-tail availability.

I can understand waiting for a mobile IGP. I don't understand waiting for a desktop IGP when high power desktop gfx adapters are so cheap these days. Small form factor PC maybe???

It seems like AMD has missed a pre-xmas release on all their APUs
this seems odd to me

I'm planning a new build for a secondary pc as well and I'm hoping someone here can help.
Ive got a radeon 5850 lying around, how does it compare to APU's? Should I just get a high end APU and use that for graphics or should i buy a mid range cpu and recycle the gpu.(wont be my gaming machine but id like it to be able to play a few older games)

The HD5850 is faster than any IGP by a long shot. So depends exactly what you wish to game and in what settings and resolution. But so far the obvious thing would be to recycle the HD5850.

Well, it's tougher to time the market with CPUs and first launch of GPUs on a new process. That said, it would have been very good for AMD if they had been able to have retail Kaveri based product in stores by Thanksgiving - they need every little boost they can get.

Back to school is the big computer buying time, not Christmas. At least that is how it was, have not looked at sales recently.

Thanks for that. Does anyone know of a comparison page?

It is possible that if the people at AMD all had 197 IQ and they completely rewrote their driver, they could optimize in such a way as to use their onboard HSA GPU to boost the framerates of a R9-290X to the point where it blows away even the highest end Intel setup. But come on if AMD was that smart they'd have done it a long time ago... but again I must emphasize that such a thing is technically possible.

Tests show that frame pacing on regular Crossfire is much better with Hawaii (290/290X) because of the xDMA engine replacing the bridge connector. This is a GCN 1.1 feature, so it would also be included on Bonaire (7790/260X), but not on most of the rest of AMD's lineup. I wonder if Kaveri will be able to use xDMA to improve the quality of Hybrid Crossfire with these cards.
