I know with vBulletin, you can set a minimum post requirement for specific boards. A lot of other forums have done this for their social/off topic sections.

I guess it's not done here because a) it's never been a big problem, b) the mods would rather noobs troll here than in the technical boards, or c) they don't want AT Forums to come off as unwelcoming to new members. Probably a combination of the three.

Better yet, allow ratings for each post.

If a user has overall negative ratings towards their comments, they get invisa-banned,.. and a death squad is sent to their home.



That'll show people they need to post things that only appeal to the majority of the members of this forum. Who the fuck do they think they are, posting words and sentences on ideas the majority of the people on here don't agree with??

I'm still convinced about 10 of the new ones are all one guy - Mayne. He says he's been here since 98. He's a perpetual noob.

Aside from that we just have to accept new blood here or the forums would die. Some start off as kids and grow up on the boards and change over time. We all have to start somewhere. Lately it's like the mental ward escaped though lol.

I don't really mind so much it's kind of entertaining, as long as it doesn't go on forever. And I like to poke them with a stick.

Honestly all the "real" parts of ATOT confuse me or make me feel old.

-The video card forum is all arguing over production processes. Every time I try to read it I feel like an 18 year old who just voted for the first time wandering into a conversation about geopolitics, reserve currencies, and trade agreements. Sure its more important stuff than my little D vs R and is the stuff that actually matters for what happens years from now, but I care about today's horserace more.

-The CPU forum makes me wish that damn x86 licence was transferable so Nvidia could buy AMD already and give Intel a decent competitor.

-The Memory and Storage forum drives me nuts because there are still people in 2014 who think they can call themselves computer nerds even though their primary compute device runs on a hard drive and not a SSD. News flash: unless you live in the third world the only acceptable drive your OS can be loaded on is a SSD. I don't care how big of a buffer your HD has, or how fast it spins, it is dinosaur tech and it sucks.

-Console Gaming makes me hate what Xbox Live has done to gaming.

-P&N always feels like a waste of time, like trying to convince my born-again uncle that he won't see his dad in heaven. Eventually you just got to let people believe the lie.

I could go on, but basically there are three or four forums here I "trust." I should spend more time on the nix forum I guess though.

We'd all still come here, just like we have for years, and not much would really change. All those idiots contribute is glorified nef threads, and we can make those just fine without them. It might actually lead to better discussions here, by raising our average IQ, but the other forums would probably suffer since ATOT is basically the forums' garbage disposal.

It's virtually a "ghost town" nowadays. You'll read regular post from about 100 or so "regular" members. Others just lurk and decide to post only when they feel like it. It's not the same AT-OT from 10 years ago. Lot's of members have found a life outside these forums and found betters thing to do. :\
