Would being an intern as a SQA engineer be a good start?

Companies want real world experience. Some don't even care about the field you previously worked in when you're starting out...

i'm a computer science student, and i want to someday become a software developer to complete interesting projects for some company and make loads of $.

I started my career as a SQA intern. It's not the most fun job in the world, but it's definitely a start. If you're ultimate goal is to eventually become a developer, be sure you're proactive in terms of steering yourself in that direction. Discuss with your manager about your career goals.

The Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Group is responsible for reporting deviations from the standard software process to senior management. Notice that we are talking about software process. So, if you are really up for a SQA position, and you want to write code, doing process audits is not going to be very much fun.

However, if you are talking about an Independent Verification group that creates and executes Functional, or other types of testing, then the experience might be beneficial and lead to other opportunities.
