The wife and I are going through mutual midlife (third, I'll do more cardio!) crisises and weve both been pretty flippant about our jobs. My wife's flipancy led to her walking out of her gig and finding a job in 48 hours for more pay and better benefits in a nicer part of town. I'm thinking of putting lipstick on a pig and appreciating my shitty job, and fixing what I hate (there's zero upward mobility and it's soul sucking and gross, but the very flexible schedule I'm forcing out proves convenient for a dad with a 3 year old and a first grader, who kinda wants a 3rd). Is going as far as hiring home depot parking lot workers and renovating going too far?
basically my boss is a cheapskate, and my chair is broken and from 1955 and giving me a horrible back, there's spiderwebs, rat droppings, roaches, etc. all around. It's in the hood. But I work maybe like 20 minutes a day (level 824 in candy crush, what what!) and my paychecks never late. So, with my wife's 30% higher wages and the $600 month rent increase we just started getting - what if I basically renovated my cube? Cleaners, replace the furniture (used is fine and frugal), shit - what if I mounted a $300 4k tv since he literally doesn't seem to care what i do? i ready moved a treadmill in and he thought it was clever. Is renovating my cube into a man cave a mentally unstable thing to do?
edit: i already did this with the workplace's rat problem. first week i worked their I noticed chewed up cables and containers, my boss basically nodded "yeah, that's why we throw our trash out every day!" instead of dealing with the problem. I got some traps and killed them all that week. He kinda thought I was crazy then, thinking actually laying down rugs and getting a chair nicer than his willl make him think i'm a lunatic, but he can't fire me right?
