Would I like Baldur's Gate 2? How about D&D Temple of Elemental Evil?

I love hack n' slash RPG's such as Diablo 2, Dungeon Seige, D&D Heroes, etc... But I've never played BG.

Target has the original w/expansion pack for $19 and I need a new PC game for when I cannot get on the Xbox.

I loved Baldur's Gate, I loved Baldur's Gate II even more. Best PC games ever.

BG is much more involved that your typical hack and slash. You manage an entire party, and battles are won and lost based on how you manage the party. There are many battles that you'll get into, get your ass WHIPPED the first time. Then, you try again, use the pause between turns, and effectively manage your spellcasters, and you'll win the fight.

For me, that is great, I love that kind of game. I also love the many many side quests available in the game, I spent hours and hours in BG 1 and 2.

Don't forget the novel-like storyline that they turned into...uh...novels.

BGII was superb! I've actually played it from start to finish twice, and now I just added the expansion and I'm playing it again.

I feel the Baldur's Gate series are my favorite PC games. I've played BG 1, BG2 + expansion. Just got the expansion for BG 1 so only looking for an excuse for playing it . Then you have the icewind dale series as well to satiate your bloodthirst. If you're into RPG's then you'll like Baldur's Gate. at $19 bucks that's possibly a hundred hours of entertainment at just 20 cents an hour! Plus if you just like that sort of genre of gaming look into the Fallout series and also Planescape Torment argued by many as having one of the best storylines in any RPG.

If you play BG 1 and 2 and like them, you can also try another classic, Planescape: Torment. Awesome game. Don't expect much on the graphics though, they are even more dated than BG.

on the other hand, BG2 -dark alliance ( 1 and 2) are both hack and slash games. I recommend them for the xbox.

Agreed.

Planescape: Torment is the best game ever made IMO.

Baldurs Gate I & II are excellent RPGS though.

Weird. I lost interest in it quickly, simply I think due to the fact that your guy doesn't use weapons, or there were no swords or something. it just "bugged" me. It was good though.

BG and BG2 are good. Arcanum was a great game, though looking aged now, but not linear like BG1 & 2 are (they are pretty linear).

if you prefer combat, you will probably like Icewind Dale better than BG. But BG2 w/xpack is an awesome game. very very long tho!

One cool thing, if you play Planescape: Torment before you play BG II, you'll notice a few things from Torment crossing over into BG. Like the Dakkon's Zerth Blade you can find in BG II is the sword Dakkon uses in Torment.

The BG1 graphics are horrible. I tried to play it the other day and I couldn't bare it. First of all it was 640x480. Second, the gameplay area was about half the screen area.

Well, I am talking about BG2, for whatever that's worth.

The graphics are a little better, and you can increase the resolution. 800x600 supported, but you can also use "unsupported" resolutions too with the little setup app.

Baldur's Gate 2 is my favorite game of all time, hands down. As someone else mentioned, managing your party in battles is great fun and doing all of the many side quests is really what makes the game great.

BG and BG2, wow, two of my favorite games. Those Bioware people know how to make great RPG. Another classic is Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic, those lines from the HK-47 character are hillarious.

BGII is the best PC game of all time, IMO. It's especially fun playing it multiplayer. The Icewind Dale series is also excellent.

Definitely check out the Icewind Dale series. A little bit more hack and slash than the BG series. Tons of fun as well.
