My brother in law computer died. I got a i7 920 and some DDR3 RAM. I just need a board. The board only list for the Xeon processors. Would a i7 920 works in this board? I don't want to reinstall all of the OS and software, what's the best way so I could just put the old hard drive back into the new system without reinstalling every thing? It's running Windows 7 X64.

Thanks.

It is hard to say for a fact. The X58 + ICH10 chipset supports that processor. Every main consumer board that uses that chipset supports the i7 920 in their first revision and first BIOS release (Gigabyte, Asus, Tyan). I suspect that it will work, but there could be some BIOS comparability requirements that I don't know about which could prevent it from working. The only way to know I think is to try it as I do not believe Dell has a CPU compatibility chart listed for that system.

EDIT:
Actually, doing a quick google search shows a few people who have the T3500 with i7 920 listed in the signatures on various BBSs, and T3500 listed for sale with a i7 920. So I would think you are good.

Neither. It's a full size work station board..

So is it a regular size ATX board? Or is full size work station board a different type? What case other than the OEM Precision Dell could I use with the board?
Thanks.

The GX620 in the video is BTX, not the T3500. BTX is easy to identify. The I/O Panel is on the opposite side of the board as ATX, as well as the expansion slots. See pics here http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/atx-btx-cases,1187-19.html

As far as will it fit a regular ATX Case? It might, but since I don't know exact size of the motherboard, I can't say for sure.

If it's ATX the I/O should fit in the regular ATX and it looks like this board is ATX. I could modify to the stand offs.

I'm am new to the forum, so Hello everybody! I am currently running a 1366 Mobo out of a t3500 with an i7 950, and 3x2GB corsair xms3. The bios recognized everything and posted flawlessly. I recommend something bigger than the stock copper units though if you go i7. I'm running a megahelms 12 heat pipe cooler... I hjad to modify the retention bracket for the cpu hold down with a dremel because of dells proprietary design... and I bought a DuPont pinning kit so I could hook up my pwm fans to the dell proprietary 5 pin pwm. Solid machine, aside from an audio clicking/crackle issue at times.
